FA Cup 2023-24 3rd Round action is set to be underway

Two teams with their own set of defensive issues, Crystal Palace and Everton are set to lock horns at Selhurst Park for FA Cup 3rd Round action.

Crystal Palace had a crucial win last weekend and would want to build on it. Although they ended a seven-match winless streak, defensive problems still were seen during their 3-1 win against Brentford.

On the other hand, Everton, after a good start in December, have now suffered four consecutive losses, including a 3-0 defeat against Wolves last weekend.

Fans can expect an enthralling goal-mouth action at Selhurst Park. However, not the one with much defensive acumen to show for it.

Kick-off

Thursday, 4th January 2024, 7:45 PM GMT

Friday, 5th January 2024, 1:15 AM IST

Location: Selhurst Park

Form

Crystal Palace (in all competitions): L-D-D-L-W

Everton (in all competitions): W-L-L-L-L

Players to watch for

Michael Olise (Crystal Palace)

The 22-year-old has started to find his paces yet again this season, as was evident in Palace’s last game against Brentford. Michael Olise, although has just featured in just 9 games this season owing to injury, has scored 5 goals and assisted another. With him in the playing XI, the Eagles do soar.

Jack Harrison (Everton)

Having signed for Everton this season, following Leeds United’s drop to the Championship, Jack Harrison has found settling in the Merseyside easy it seems. The English winger has been crucial in Sean Dyche’s scheme of things. He has 2 goals and 3 assists in 14 League games this season.

Match facts

  • Palace have lost 3 of their last 4 third-round FA Cup fixtures
  • Everton have lost 7 of their 9 FA Cup fixtures against Premier League sides
  • Palace have progressed to the next round from just two in six times against Everton

Injury and team news

Crystal Palace Team News: Crystal Palace will be without key players due to injuries. Rob Holding, Cheick Doucoure, and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone are unavailable. However, there is a positive note as Odsonne Edouard is set to make his first start since December 9th after recovering from an injury sustained against Brentford. Michael Olise, the attacking talisman, who scored two goals in the last game, is expected to play a crucial role. Former Watford midfielder Will Hughes could also make a full recall for the match.

Everton Team News: Everton are facing concerns over the fitness of Abdoulaye Doucoure, who has missed the last four appearances. Additionally, former Manchester United star Ashley Young is expected to be unavailable. Beto, who opened his Premier League account against Newcastle on December 7th, maybe back in the starting lineup. Manager Sean Dyche is likely to make several changes, with players like Ben Godfrey, Arnaut Danjuma, and Andre Gomes hoping to feature in the midweek match at Selhurst Park.
