The Indian Super League (ISL 2023-24) season is heading towards its business end and with it, the performances of the clubs have been gradually improving. With the picture of the playoff contenders becoming clearer and the pressure to achieve seasonal objectives mounting, the players are taking this opportunity to step up and deliver memorable performances for their respective sides.
Foreign and Indian players alike mesmerised the crowds in the recently concluded gameweek 15 of the Indian Super League. Whether it was in a losing cause or helping their club grind a win, plenty of individual players performed key roles and thus found their way into Khel Now’s Team of the Week for the gameweek 15.
Here is a look at the ISL Team of the Week for gameweek 15 of the 2023-24 season:
Formation – 4-4-2
Goalkeeper: Vishal Kaith (Mohun Bagan)
Vishal Kaith played a vital role in helping Mohun Bagan keep a clean-sheet against an in-form FC Goa. The custodian helped the Mariners win by a 1-0 scoreline during which he made four important saves.
Right-back: Sandeep Singh (Kerala Blasters FC)
Despite Kerala Blasters FC losing to Chennaiyin FC by a solitary goal, Sandeep Singh had reasons to hold his head high. The full-back made six clearances, won 13 overall duels and had 61 touches on the ball too!
Centre-back: Rahul Bheke (Mumbai City FC)
Mumbai City FC kept two clean-sheets in both of their games in gameweek 15 and Rahul Bheke was at the centre in both instances. The centre-back was particularly impressive in the side’s 2-0 win over Bengaluru FC where he made three important clearances and blocked three shorts expertly.
Centre-back: Suresh Meitei (Punjab FC)
Suresh Meitei’s performances for Punjab FC this season have largely gone under the radar due to negative results. However, the centre-back delivered a sensational performance once again in the side’s 3-1 win over Kerala Blasters FC, making seven clearances and blocking two shots.
Left-back: Aakash Sangwan (Chennaiyin FC)
Aakash Sangwan was brilliant for Chennaiyin FC in their 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters FC. Not only did the left-back help in keeping a clean-sheet but he also made the most telling impact on the game, scoring the winning goal, his first-ever in the competition.
Right Winger: Mohammed Sanan (Jamshedpur FC)
Mohammed Sanan has been one of the best and most consistent performers in the Jamshedpur FC setup this season. The 19-year-old is having a breakthrough season in the ISL. His performance in the club’s 4-0 win over Punjab FC was memorable, where he scored a first-ever ISL goal.
Central Midfielder: Jeremy Manzorro (Jamshedpur FC)
Jeremy Manzorro is being hailed as the most influential foreign player in the ongoing ISL season. The midfielder found himself on the scoresheet again, scoring a brace in Jamshedpur FC’s 4-0 win over Punjab FC, taking his season’s tally to four.
Central Attacking Midfielder – Joni Kauko (Mohun Bagan)
Joni Kauko’s return to the Indian Super League has been impressive. The Finnish midfielder delivered a few assists in the side’s 4-2 win over the Highlanders. His form will be crucial to the Mariners’ campaign going forward.
Left Winger: Vikram Partap Singh (Mumbai City FC)
Vikram Partap Singh was the difference maker in Mumbai City FC’s 2-0 win over Bengaluru FC. The winger scored both goals during the match and dedicated them to his late father, who passed away earlier in January 2024.
Striker: Tomi Juric (NorthEast United)
Tomi Juric’s life in the Indian Super League has started on a fiery note on a personal level. The striker scored a brace in the 4-2 loss against Mohun Bagan, taking his tally to four goals in three matches. Despite losing the game, the Highlanders’ faithful were pleased with Juric’s performance.
Striker: Wilmar Jordan (Punjab FC)
Wilmar Jordan scored two crucial goals to help Punjab FC cause a massive upset and defeat Kerala Blasters FC by a 3-1 scoreline. The striker showed incredible hunger to score and silenced the crowd at the JLN Stadium in Kochi with his goal-scoring prowess.
