The ISL gameweek 14 served plenty of delicious individual performances to savour.
In the past week, another Indian Super League gameweek concluded and gave the fans plenty of memorable moments. The 2023-24 ISL season is shaping up to be unpredictable, exciting and exhilarating. The matches between the outfits are becoming intense and more competitive as the clubs are shifting gears to increase their chances of finishing among the top six teams that advance into the playoffs.
From a fiery strike by Jay Gupta to impressive first goals in the ISL by Tomi Juric, the past week’s round of matches had several notable performances from individual players who stepped up for their respective Indian Super League clubs. These stars were central to their clubs’ positive results and will hope to stay in the course for the remainder of the season.
On that note, here is a look at Khel Now’s Team of the Week for gameweek 14.
Formation – 5-3-2
GK – Gurmeet Singh (Hyderabad FC)
Gurmeet Singh was head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates despite ending up on the losing side for Hyderabad FC against Mohun Bagan. The Mariners secured a 2-0 win but the scoreline could have been worse for the Nizams if Singh had not made a whopping 10 saves during the game.
RWB – Redeem Tlang (NorthEast United FC)
Redeem Tlang was a constant nuisance on the flanks for NorthEast United in their 3-2 win over East Bengal. He delivered a gorgeous assist for Nestor Albiach that gave the Highlanders a 2-0 lead against the Kolkata-based club.
RCB – Amey Ranawade (Odisha FC)
Amey Ranawade was strong defensively and also contributed in attack during Odisha FC’s 1-1 draw against FC Goa. His cross was calmly converted by Roy Krishna which gave the Juggernauts the lead. He also helped Odisha FC keep a clean-sheet in their 3-0 win over Hyderabad FC earlier in the week.
CB – Subhasish Bose (Mohun Bagan)
Subhasish Bose has been a consistent performer for the Mariners this season and he once again did his duties well. The defender helped the side keep a clean-sheet in a 2-0 win over the Nizams and won nine out of 10 duels to win back possession for his side.
LCB – Jay Gupta (FC Goa)
Jay Gupta is quickly becoming the most sought-after defender in Indian football. His performances have been excellent this season and he took it up a notch by scoring another fire-cracker of a goal in FC Goa’s 1-1 draw with Odisha FC. He scored with a long-range strike straight into the top-right corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance to save it.
LWB – Nandhakumar Sekar (East Bengal FC)
East Bengal’s Nandhakumar Sekar scored in the past week in a 3-2 defeat to NorthEast United. Despite his brilliance, the Red & Gold Brigade were underwhelming as a unit. His right-footed strike gave East Bengal the hope of making a comeback but it was not meant to be.
RW – Roy Krishna (Odisha FC)
Roy Krishna kept his goal-scoring streak alive by scoring against FC Goa in an entertaining 1-1 draw. The striker has netted 11 goals this season, the most by any individual player. He also scored against Hyderabad FC in the 3-0 win earlier in the week.
CM – Nestor Albiach (NorthEast United FC)
Nestor was the driving force behind NorthEast United’s 3-2 win over 2024 Super Cup winners East Bengal. He provided a brilliant assist for the opening goal and then extended the lead with his third goal of the 2023-24 ISL season.
LW – Isak Vanlalruatfela (Odisha FC)
Isak Vanlalruatfela got an assist in Odisha FC’s 3-0 win over Hyderabad FC, taking his season’s tally to three. The winger is emerging as one of the best young players of the season and continues to deliver for the Juggernauts from the flanks.
ST – Tomi Juric (NorthEast United FC)
Tomi Juric opened his account in the Indian Super League with an outstanding brace for NorthEast United in their 3-2 win over East Bengal. The Australian striker showed incredible calm and composure with the fans enjoying his initial contribution to the Highlanders.
ST – Diego Mauricio (Odisha FC)
Diego Mauricio, an ever-present threat in the Odisha FC forward line, scored a brace against Hyderabad FC. The striker has accumulated six goals in the league this season and looks hungry to add more to his tally.
