UEL 2023-24 Round of 16 is set to be underway

The Rossoneri spent the first half of the season in Champions League Group F and they will consider themselves unlucky to have been eliminated having amassed the same amount of points as second-placed PSG. Stefano Pioli’s side have parachuted into Europe’s secondary club coemption where they will come up against French outfit Rennes. This is the first time AC Milan and Rennes will face each other in an official European match, and the Milanese’s record against French teams is good.

Rennes, meanwhile, extended their winning run in Ligue 1 to five matches on Sunday with a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Le Havre. Julien Stéphan’s side finished as runners-up in Europa League Group F, meaning that they will now have to overcome one of Europe’s most decorated clubs if they are to progress to the round of 16.

Kick-Off:

Thursday, 15th Feb 2024, 08:00 PM (GMT), 03:00 PM (EST)

Form

AC Milan Form (All Competitions): W-W-D-W-W

Players to Watch

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (AC Milan)

Whether he is deployed centrally or wide, he is effective at finding pockets of space – and therefore of posing an attacking threat, he is constantly on the move in search of space. When the ball comes to him, he then looks to play quick combinations with teammates. His physicality is very important for Milan’s midfield as he is very robust and a key player for the side from Italy.

Martin Terrier (Rennes)

Martin Terrier is the proper modern-day attacker. Versatile with a wide skill set. His tenacity and decisiveness have been fine-tuned for him to have an even bigger end product. His role and performance in this match will be very crucial for the team to progress in the next round.

Match Facts

  • Stade Rennes have a winning streak of 4 matches away from home.
  • Stade Rennes have scored at least one goal for 7 consecutive matches.
  • AC Milan haven’t lost in their last 4 games.

Injury and Team News

Kalulu and Tomori will continue to miss out for AC Milan as both defenders endure recovery from injury. Malick Thiaw is back in full training but wasn’t fit enough to make the bench against Napoli at the weekend, his availability for the match is also difficult.

Enzo Le Fee, after coming off against Sochaux in the game before, was sidelined for Rennes’ 0-1 victory at the weekend. He’ll prove a big blow here, along with Belocian and Reider who are also ruled out through injury.

Head-to-Head

Both teams will face each other for the first time.
