Dutch forward Quincy Promes 'sentenced to six years prison' for drug trafficking of 1,360kg of cocaine
The former Ajax player had organised the import of 1,350 kilogrammes of cocaine
Quincy Promes, a former Ajax player, has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in the importation of approximately 1,350 kilogrammes of cocaine.
Promes was under investigation in May of last year for his alleged role in cocaine smuggling, which resulted in two separate packages of 650 kg and 713 kg of heroin being discovered in Antwerp in January 2020.
Promes and a 32-year-old co-suspect were recently formally found guilty by the Public Prosecution Service of buying, selling, transferring, and having the controlled substances.
The pills were allegedly shipped from Brazil in two containers to Antwerp, where they were concealed in a cargo of sea salt.
The former Ajax winger never spoke about the charges against him because he did not show up for the trial, according to NOS.

According to additional sources, the former Netherlands international ignored the court dates, indicating that he felt “untouchable.”
Prosecutors reportedly stated: “He seems to think he is untouchable in Russia or abroad,” according to NL Times.
Additionally, it’s said that the goal of the prosecution was to determine “how such a successful footballer allowed himself to be drawn so deeply into crime.”
When the matter moved striker last month, Dutch officials had originally requested a prison term of nine years for the Spartak Moscow forward.
Prosecutors claimed that Promes “normalises and almost romanticises the cocaine trade” in their demand for the nine-year term. Prosecutors contend that Promes’ wealth allowed him to invest and, as a result, move up the administrative hierarchy.
According to the Dutch Public Prosecution Service, “the case came to light after the police Criminal Intelligence Team received information that the 32-year-old man, who now lives in Russia, was involved in the cocaine trade.”
