Dempo SC thrash Guardian Angel in Goa Pro League

Dempo Sports Club thrashed Guardian Angel Sports Club 5-0 in the Goa Pro League match played at Duler Stadium, earlier today. Dempo went into the breather with a two-goal lead. The match witnessed attacking football from both sides, but Dempo dominated major parts of it. The Golden Eagles made five changes from their last match. Skipper Shallum Pires was back in the team along with Beevan D’Mello and Velito Cruz. Mario Mascarenhas and Assumption Soares were the other two changes. The Savordem side also made the same numbers of changes with Anthony Pereira and Gaurish Naik finding a place in the starting XI. Dempo took just two minutes to have a shot on target; Assumption’s shot from close range was blocked by Guardian Angel defender Rahul Kumar. In the 25th minute Mohammad Ali made an excellent cross from the right flank, but Savordem keeper Ram Sroop cleared it. On the half hour mark Dempo made their first substitution of the match, Assumption came off for India international Germanpreet Singh who made a great impact. In the 38th minute Germanpreet’s low cross saw Nigerian Felix Chidi inside the box who just tapped in the ball to make it 1-0 for the Panjim side. Four minutes before the break Dempo doubled their lead,. D’Mello made no mistake to head the ball home after getting a perfect cross from Mascarenhas. After the break the Golden Eagles made it 3-0 after just five minutes. Once again Germanpreet sent a perfect cross to Beevan who tapped the ball home from close range. In the 62nd minute Chidi missed a sitter; His shot from close range went wide of the target. However in the 79th minute, Beevan completed his hatrick. he dribbled past the Savordem defenders and placed the ball into the net to make it 4-0. Few minutes later Dempo should have increased their lead but substitute Milagres Gonsalves missed two open chances, while Mohammad Ali made it 5-0 for them. He made no mistake from six yards after receiving a curling cross from Germanpreet. The Dempo Coach Mauricio Afonso was in sarcastic mood after the game and said, “I am happy with the result but not with team's performance. Though we scored five goals, but we were not at our best. No matter how much you score against any opponent, you have to play good football. Everybody should appreciate your game." Standing of Goa Pro League after today's fixture. In the other match played at Corp of Signal Ground Navelim,the newly promoted hosts edged past Calangute Association 2-1. Pawan Thakur opened the tally for the Corps in the 7th minute. Calangute leveled back through Bonny Niasso’s goal in the 65th minute.
