Dempo SC hammer Panjim Footballers in Goa Pro League
The Golden Eagles closed the gap at the top with three points as they stand second behind FC Goa.
Dempo Sports Club registered an overpowering 5-0 win over Panjim Footballers in capital City derby of the Goa Professional League played at Duler Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Joaquim Abranches, Jaison Vaz and Jessel Scored in the first half, while substitute Chatur Naik and Desmon Pereira added two in the second session for the Golden Eagles to book all three points from the match.
Panjim who had lost to Sporting Clube De Goa in the last match had four changes to their side as their coach Savio Vaz brought in Joel Colaco, Prasil Kankonkar, Chandan Gawas and Massom Ali in the starting XI. Whereas, Dempo coach Samir Naik made only one change to his side which defeated Vasco SC in the last match as Desmon Pereira was back in the playing XI for the Golden Eagles.
Dempo were the first to look at the goal as they took 12 minutes to create their first potent chance when Naveen Mendes made a cross to Jessel Carneiro in the box whose shot was brilliantly blocked by Panjim Keeper Ali where Jaison Vaz had the open chance to put the Golden Eagles into the lead but the striker tapped wide from the goalmouth with every opponent beaten.
They had another chance within the next five minutes as this time Jessel came with a fine cross to Joaquim Abranches in the box but the striker saw his tap missed the target by few inches.
However, in the 27th minutes, Dempo managed to take the lead when Jaison’s low cross was brilliantly tapped in by Abranches to make it 1-0 for the Golden Eagles.

Jaison doubled the lead for the host in the 36th minutes when Jessel snatched the ball from Panjim defender and made a smart pass to unmarked Jaison in the box who shot past Panjim custodian making it 2-0.
Jessel scored the third goal in the added time from the spot kick when Abranches shot from the top of the box was handled by Panjim defender Clifton Fernandes. Though the shot was not on target, while the offence was unintentional, referee Mario Pereira chose to give the penalty kick which was brilliantly converted by the Dempo winger.
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]On crossing over, Dempo coach Samir brought in Chatur Naik replacing Abarnches and the striker could have scored from his first touch but his shot off Jaison’s cutback rebound off the crossbar. However, in the very next minutes, the substitute strike made no mistake to tap the ball home from close off Kirikesh Gadekar’s cross from the left.
Leading by four goals, Dempo completely dominated the rest of the session and added another in the added time as Desmon made a darting run on the wing and shot past Panjim keeper from inside the box to make it 5-0 for the Golden Eagles.
