Churchill Brothers thrash YC Manora in Goa Pro League

Churchill Brothers thrashed Youth Club of Manora 4-0 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium on Friday. Aaron Bareto opened the scoring for Churchill in the 19th minute, while Saurav Mandal scored on either side of the break (45+3’ & 60’) to put the Red Machines in the driver's seat. Quan Gomes then completed the rout with a spectacular free-kick in the 72nd minute.
The Manora coach made two changes two their side which had earned full points against Calangute Association in the last match. Frazier Castanha and Rajinder Kumar replaced Jayson Lucas and Joywin Carneiro respectively in the starting XI. On the other hand, Churchill, who played out a goalless draw against Dempo SC in the previous match made several changes. Afdal Varikkodan, Asif Molla, Aurav Mandal, Pushkar Prabhu and Yagya Kapoor started for Dempo.

Both Churchill Brothers and Manora showed eagerness to surge ahead from the word go. However, Manora were the first to come close as Jouston Barbosa shot from the edge of the box. But, Churchill keeper Nora Fernandes dived to his left to deny him from scoring. At the other end, Churchill also took just two more minutes to create their first potent attack. Aaron Bareto tried his luck from just inside the box, but failed to keep his fierce strike on target.
The Red Machine once again came close to scoring in the 10th minute. This time Asif nicely curled the ball to find Saurav in the box, but the Manora custodian parried the ball to safety with a full length dive.
After failing to capitalize on the first few chances, Churchill finally managed to break the deadlock in the 19th minute. Afdal sent a perfect ball to Aaron in the box, who tapped in to put the Red Machines ahead.
Manora also had an opportunity to level scores in the 28th minute. Forward Eldon Colaco made a fine low cross to an unmarked Nicklas Noronha. However, the youngster lad failed to reach it with the ball going out for a throw-in.

Churchill came up with a few more raids on the rivals in the next 15 minutes. In one of them, Saurav found his teammate Aaron unmarked in the box, who went for glory in his first attempt. But, Manora keeper Brodman gloved it away for a corner.
The Red Machines finally doubled their lead in the added minutes of the opening half. Asif Molla sent a perfect cross to Saurav in the box, who made no mistake to find the net with a neat header to make it 2-0.
Churchill added two more goals in the second half. First, Saurav scored his second and the third for his team, when a well-taken corner by Quan Gomes was headed in by the winger. Quan then nicely curled the ball at the far post to clinch all three points.
