East Bengal finally got back to winning ways after a long tenure.
East Bengal finally kicked off the Oscar Bruzon era in the right way with a huge 4-0 win over Bashundhara Kings in the AFC Challenge League clash on Tuesday (29 October).
The likes of Dimitrios Diamantakos, Sauvik Chakraborty, Nandhakumar Sekar and Anwar Ali all scored in the first half to wrap up a big win for the Red & Gold Brigade.
After the game, Oscar Bruzon was delighted to finally get his first win as East Bengal head coach and he stated, “We’ve been having a tough time for a long time, so this one is for the fans – especially the ones who were here and those who kept supporting the team in these tough times. We are going to keep fighting to reverse the situation and today was the first step of what is going to be a good going for the club.”
Oscar Bruzon was also really happy to see four different goal-scorers in the game and believes his side was able to execute his tactics perfectly. Oscar Bruzon explained: “It’s very important for a team to have the capacity to score from different players. Today, we controlled the central areas. Bashundhara had a lot of players there, it was good that we attracted them in central areas and won the ball to attack through the left wing through Nandha.
“We created a lot of openings on that side. We wanted numbers in the box and the consequential of doing those attacks is that many different players came into the box and luckily today four different players got in the scoresheet,” Oscar Bruzon also stated.
Cleiton Silva’s performance in second half
Even though some East Bengal fans were annoyed with the performance of Cleiton Silva in the second half, Oscar Bruzon doesn’t point fingers at individuals and believes the fitness issue is one troubling the entire squad. He claimed: “We are going to talk about the fitness of the team, it’s better to discuss as a group problem and personal issues.
“I want more from the players, today it’s easy to speak as we won, but the reality is that we were struggling physically in the last three games. I hope the performance helps raise my self-belief. It’s a week-after-week process. If today we played 45 minutes of excellent player, then if we can do that for 60 in the next game, it’ll be better,” the gaffer ended with.
East Bengal have kept their dreams of making it into the knockout stages of the AFC Challenge League alive with the win over the Bangladeshi side. They are in second place in group A and a win over Nejmeh FC in the final game will help them win the group and move on to the next round.
