Mohun Bagan SG have reached the final of the 135th edition of the Durand Cup and as expected, a Kolkata derby is on the cards. The Mariners have defeated NorthEast United FC 4-3 on penalties at Shillong on August 20, 2026.
The Mariners have done it again. After 90 tense minutes failed to produce a goal, Mohun Bagan held their nerve in the penalty shootout to book their place in the Durand Cup final.
The hero of the night was once again Vishal Kaith. The Mohun Bagan goalkeeper produced a stunning double save, stopping two consecutive NorthEast United penalties and swinging the shootout decisively in the Mariners’ favour.
It was a night of frustration and heartbreak for NorthEast United, who came within touching distance of a third consecutive Durand Cup final.
Despite creating some promising opportunities during the game, the Highlanders could not find the decisive goal and ultimately paid the price in the shootout.
The Durand Cup 2026 kicked off with the Kolkata Derby and it will end with the Kolkata derby as well.
East Bengal FC and Mohun Bagan SG will lock horns against each other once again in the Durand Cup final after 2023.

Vishal Kaith – 9/10

Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith made two saves in the shootout as they beat NorthEast United 4-3 on penalties to win the Durand Cup 2026 semi-final in Shillong.
On a wet outfield, both sides lacked the cutting edge as the match concluded 0-0 after 90 minutes. But for the second game in a row, Kaith proved to be the penalty shootout hero for Mohun Bagan.
He saved NorthEast United’s last two penalties, taken by Robin Yadav and Parthib Gogoi. Vishal produced another outstanding shootout performance to book their place in the Durand Cup final.
Subhasish Bose – 8/10

Subhasish Bose was calm and composed at the back once again.
The Mohun Bagan captain once again was leading the defence line and cleverly converted his penalty in the shootout.
Rahul Bheke – 7.5/10
Rahul Bheke’s experienced defensive display proved to be vital for Mohun Bagan in the end against the Highlanders to seal the match in their favour.
He kept the NorthEast attackers under control and confidently scored Mohun Bagan’s opening penalty.
Alberto Rodriguez – 7.5/10

Alberto Rodriguez was successful in keeping Ajaraie and Ethyan quiet. He was once again solid at the back and kept the performed his defensive duties well despite appearing to have a hamstring concern early in the game.
Samir Zeljkovic – 7/10
He is one of the new signing for Bagan this season from Punjab. Tried his best in the midfield today on his debut in Green- Maroon colours but the difficult, wet surface affected his passing.
Abhi Meitei – 6.5/10
Abhi Meitei maintained his positioning well and avoided major errors, but did not significantly influence the game beyond the basic defensive duties.
He was very energetic on both the flanks.
Apuia – 7/10
Apuia produced a lot of energy and physicality in the midfield in an away knockout game.
His intensity in winning the second balls by battling out in the midfield was praiseworthy.
He took few long rangers as well but couldn’t convert them into goals due to wet outfield.
Sahal Abdul Samad – 8/10

Sahal was proactive from the beginning of the game and was one of the star performers for Bagan on the field today despite adverse conditions.
He was later on subbed off but took few long rangers which were saved by the goalkeeper of NorthEast in the end.
He was using his pace and creativity throughout the game to produce some magic but the weather conditions were not at all suitable for playing.
Manvir Singh – 5/10

Worked hard but couldn’t produce the attacking impact expected from him and was subbed off later on in the second half.
Liston Colaco – 8/10

Liston was also proactive from the beginning on the flank and was creating constant pressure in the defence line of the Highlanders through his pace and attacking skills.
One of Bagan’s better attacking outlets. Forced Gurmeet into a good save from his free-kick and was involved in several promising moments. He also scored from the penalty spot.
Kiyan Nassiri – 6/10
Put in a good cross early on and worked hard, but had limited influence in the final third. He was also subbed off in the second half of the game.
Substitutes
Anirudh Thapa – 7/10
Anirudh Thapa after coming in as a substitute produce much composure into the passing quality of the Bagan midfield.
He was also controlling the midfield really well in the closing minutes of the game.
Jamie Maclaren – 7.5/10
After coming in as a substitute, Maclaren made an immediate impact in the attacking line and converted his penalty kick with a lot of calmness and determination.
Miguel Figueira – NA
Miguel Figueira came in as a substitute very late into the game but as such had no impact into the game on his Bagan debut, other than providing fresh legs and energy onto the field.
Lallianzuala Chhangte – NA
Chhangte also came in as a substitute very late but he also as such had no impact into the game on his Bagan debut.
NorthEast United FC Player Ratings
Gurmeet Singh – 8/10

Gurmeet Singh was solid for NorthEast United FC throughout the game. He made sure that the Highlanders don’t go trailing against Mohun Bagan SG early in the semifinal.
His ability was clearly seen as he made some very crucial saves against the Mariners.
Dinesh Singh – 7/10

Dinesh did very well against Liston Colaco who was continuously trying to make things happen for the Mariners. Dinesh delivered a solid performance before getting substituted in the second half making space for Asheer Akhtar.
Pramveer Singh – 8/10
Pramveer Singh started his first game for NorthEast United FC after signing with them early in the summer window. He looked solid in the defensive heart and delivered all the hype that the youngster brings alongside him.
Eneko Satrústegui – 6.5/10
Eneko was not at all good for the Highlanders. He still seems to be trying to adjust to Juan Pedro Benali’s system, but with the top-tier experience he has, his performance was very poor against Mohun Bagan SG. The Spaniard needs to now get better moving ahead.
Redeem Tlang – 7/10

Club captain Redeem Tlang delivered a decent performance in the semifinal against Mohun Bagan. He looked good for most part of the game but was seen struggling at certain instances.
Antonio Moyano – 6/10

The Spanish midfielder looked completely out of place in the game. Antonio was subbed in early in the first half around the 24th minute mark. It is however not clear, why he left the pitch so early.
Rabeeh – 7/10
Rabeeh was decent for the Highanders. He made good runs in the wings and looked decent at the back. However, he could not perform very good and had an average outing.
Maya – 7.5/10
Maya looked solid in the midfield and made sure that when the Highlanders are attacking, there is someone behind to cover up. He looked beautiful in the pivot and was very important for the NorthEast United FC side.
Ethyan Gonzalez – 7.5/10

Ethyan looked good for NorthEast United FC for most parts of the game. However, the number 9 moved to the CAM spot after Antonio Moyano was substituted early in the first half. But as a number 9 he did not have much impact and will hope to do well for his side in the coming matches.
Jithin MS – 7/10

Jithin MS looked good against Mohun Bagan SG, but much was expected from the pacy winger. He lacked the accuracy he showed against Shillong Lajong FC tonight.
Alaaeddine Ajaraie – 8/10

Alaaeddine Ajaraie tried to do most of the heavy lifting in attack and looked willing to take responsibility. Took some good shots and constantly looked for openings, but was ultimately not quite up to the mark tonight.
Substitutes
Macarton Nickson – 7.5/10
Macarton did very well for the Highlanders after coming in for Antonio Moyano at the 24th minute mark. He dictated the midfield for most part of the game but still lacked the physicality and looked outmuscled by Bagan’s midfield.
Parthib Gogoi – 6/10
Parthib Gogoi came on in the second half and put in a decent shift, but struggled to make a significant impact.
Showed some promise but was unable to influence the game as much as expected. The experienced forward also missed his spot kick in the penalty shootouts which resulted in NorthEast getting knocked out.
Asheer Akhtar – 7/10
Asheer Akhtar came on in the second half for Dinesh Singh and looked decent. Had an okay shift overall, doing his job without making a major impact on the game.
Robin Yadav – 6/10
Robin came on in the second half and looked decent, whipping in some good crosses and offering width on the flank. Robin also missed his spot kick in the penalty shootout.
However, he can still improve his overall impact and consistency.
Nikola Ninkovic – 7/10
Nikola Ninkovic came on in the second half with plenty expected from him, but failed to make a meaningful impact for NorthEast United FC.
Tried to play passes between the lines and create openings, but struggled to influence the game.

The Durand Cup 2026 Final Match is on August 23, 2026, Sunday at 5 PM (IST) at the Saltlake Stadium, Kolkata. Mohun Bagan SG will face off against East Bengal FC in the final once again after 2023.
