Weekly Transfer Roundup: Kerala Blasters sign Vazquez

The past week was one of the busiest in terms of transfers in Indan football.

The past week was full of activity in the Indian football transfer market. The deadline was looming over the heads of teams, who were still looking to recruit players. With the season yet to begin, the summer transfer window presents the best opportunity to sign desired targets and with several deals in the advanced stages, before the window shut, there were many announcements of new arrivals and contract extensions.

SC East Bengal were particularly busy in the past week, as they began their preparations for the eighth edition of the Indian Super League. Other teams across the ISL and the I-League also made a number of signings before the deadline.

Here is a recap of the transfer activity that took place in the past week:

Indian Super League 

SC East Bengal

Young Indian striker Subha Ghosh, winger Romeo Fernandes and defender Sarineo Fernandes joined the club on transfer deadline day. The trio signed just before the deadline and will look to impress their new employers in the upcoming season of the ISL. Ghosh joins from Kerala Blasters, while Sarineo and Romeo Fernandes come from FC Goa.

The Red & Gold Brigade also brought in Hira Mondal and Joyner Lourenco. The defenders will hope to shore up the team’s defence in the upcoming season. Furthermore, Raju Gaikwad signed a one-year contract extension. The Mumbai-born player joined SCEB in the January transfer window earlier this year. Ankit Mukherjee has also extended his contract with the club.

Adil Khan, Daniel Gomes and Naorem Mahesh also joined the outfit ahead of the new season. East Bengal have also roped in Jackichand Singh on loan from Mumbai City.

Chennaiyin FC

The two-time ISL champions signed Vladimir Koman ahead of the next season. CFC's sixth foreign signing has previously featured in six Europa League matches for Sampdoria. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to Indian football. 

The Marina Machans also completed the signing of Ninthoi from NorthEast United. The winger has signed a multi-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Ninthoi Meetei has over 24 appearances in the ISL and will look to make an impact at his new club. 

Kerala Blasters

The Yellow Army have signed Chencho Gyeltshen, popularly known as ‘Bhutanese Ronaldo’. He will look to add firepower to KBFC’s attack and impress in the Durand Cup 2021, before the ISL season begins. Kerala Blasters also completed the signing of Alvaro Vazquez, who has previously played in the Premier League and La Liga.

FC Goa

FC Goa have completed the signing of Dylan Fox. The Gaurs were linked with the former NorthEast United player for a long time and finally secured his services. He will look to build a solid partnership with Ivan Gonzalez at the back.

Jamshedpur FC

Jamshedpur FC announced the arrival of young Indian forward Ishan Pandita. The former FC Goa player made an impact after coming off the bench last season. However, he will hope to secure a regular place in the starting lineup for the Men of Steel from next season onwards. 

Eli Sabia has also joined the ISL outfit. He comes with plenty of ISL experience after playing for Chennaiyin FC previously. Jamshedpur FC have also signed Australian forward Jordan Murray for the upcoming season.

Mumbai City

Mumbai City have announced the arrival of Naocha Singh. He won the I-League last season with Gokulam Kerala and brings a lot of positives to the table. The defender joins the Islanders, having put pen to paper on a three-year contract until May 2024. 

The Islanders have also roped in Brad Inman as their AFC quota player. He has previously played in the ISL for ATK Mohun Bagan and Odisha FC. 

I-League/I-League Qualifiers

Gokulam Kerala

The reigning I-League and Durand Cup champions Gokulam Kerala brought in Chisom Elvis Chikatara. The Nigerian striker comes with a lot of promise and will look to help the team defend their titles. The 26-year-old has previously represented the Nigerian national team as well.

Rahim Osumanu also joins the Malabarians. The attacker will look to make an instant impact in the upcoming Durand Cup 2021. 

NEROCA FC

I-League outfit NEROCA FC have secured the signing of custodian Shubham Dhas. He spent the last season on the bench and will hope to gain more experience in the second tier of Indian football. The 22-year-old joins the team from FC Goa, where he could not get any game- time.

Real Kashmir

Real Kashmir are likely to sign Bilal Khan. The custodian played briefly for Kerala Blasters last term. He has previously played for the Snow Leopards as well, during the 2018/19 season of the I-League. The club have also signed Surchandra Singh, Subham Roy, Ponif Vaz and Niraj Kumar. 

FC Bengaluru United

FC Bengaluru United announced a number of signings. Most recently, the club revealed the arrival of Yumnam Gopi Singh, Kynsailang Khongsit, Shelton Paul, Melroy Fernandes and Nihal Colaco. These four young players will add to the energy and ambition of the club.

FCBU have also signed Kinshuk Debnath, Dharmaraj Ravanan, Thokchom James Singh and George D’Souza. They will likely be an important part of the upcoming Durand Cup 2021 squad.
