The key cogs in the hosts' domestic contingent starred, while those in the opposition's disappointed.Chennaiyin FC bounced back with a strong result after their poor showing against FC Goa. The Highlanders had no answers to the attacking prowess that Chennaiyin showcased this game. The game was won in the midfield and Bikramjit Singh and Dhanpal Ganesh contributed immensely to this victory. NorthEast United will look to sort out their problems and put on a good showing come next match day but until then, this defeat will sting.  Here's how the Indian players from both teams fared in the contest Chennaiyin FCKaranjit Singh – 6/10 He was a spectator throughout the game and did not have much to do and the NorthEast strikers did not do enough to test him. He made a couple of convincing saves but was never strained. Karanjit made 3 saves and also had 3 catches.  Bikramjit Singh – 7.5/10Offered a lot for Chennaiyin FC on both avenues, attack and defence. He played his role to perfection until he was taken off at 65’ due to an injury. Bikramjit had a total of 38 touches and completed 28 passes with a passing accuracy of 54%. Although that looks worrying, it was his cross that led to Chennaiyin’s second goal.

Jeje Lalpekhlua – 7.5/10The target man for Chennaiyin FC did what he was asked to do. Jeje held the ball really well and played some crisp 1-2’s with his compatriots Gregory Nelson and Raphael Augusto. He finished with 29 passes and a pass accuracy of 62%.  He was taken off at 81 minutes and was given a standing ovation by the fans.

Dhanapal Ganesh – 7.5/10 The surprise package today. He didn’t feature in the match-day squad for Chennaiyin FC’s first game and he was slotted into the line-up as a holding midfielder for today’s game. Needless to say, he did his job to perfection. Dhanpal finished his game with 40 passes, 2 interceptions and 1 block. One of the man of the match contender. Francisco Fernandes – 7/10 Francisco was one of Chennaiyin FC’s best passer this game. He finished the game with 78% pass completion rate. Not only on the front, Francisco Fernandes was a big menace whilst defending as well as he finished the game with a big total of 4 blocks.    Jerry Lalrinzuala – 8/10 Jerry, without a doubt, was one of Chennaiyin FC’s standout performer. His contribution defensively was on par with what he contributed to the attack. He had completed 1 cross, he created 1 chance which and his tackle by the half line is what started the attack which led to Chennaiyin FC’s first goal. Jerry looked very mature and a different player from last game.

Highlights: Chennaiyin Vs NorthEast United

Germanpreet Singh – 6.5/10 Came on for Bikramjit Singh with just 30 minutes to go in the match. Did not contribute much defensively because when he entered Chennaiyin FC were cruising and had the game under control. Germanpreet completed the game with 73% pass completion rate. Mohammed Rafi – 6.5/10 Brought on for Jeje in the dying moments of the game, Rafi was a bit erratic in his passing with just 33% of his passes, finding the target. Rafi managed to pluck one out of the sky and add to his goal tally in the closing moments from a corner.

NorthEast United FC Nirmal Chettri – 5.5/10 Had a very sub-par game. He struggled to play against Gregory Nelson and was beaten on multiple occasions. Once Chennaiyin FC eased up on the pressure, he was able to push up and managed to create one chance. Nirmal completed 39 passes with a 69% completion rate and managed to rack up 3 clearances. If he could’ve held his ground better, he might’ve had a better chance against the quick feet of Gregory Nelson.

Seiminlen Doungel – 4/10 Doungel went missing in the first half until he was taken off at 40’. He looked completely toothless and provided nothing to his number nine. One of the worst players on the pitch today, he created just 1 chance and ended the game with a poor 64% passing rate. TP Rehenesh – 5/10The goals that NorthEast conceded today were all poor defending errors and TP Rehenesh was found helpless. He made 4 catches and he also finished the game 3 saves. Unfortunately, a half decent performance was overshadowed by poor defending. Abdul Hakku – 5/10He looked shaky right from the get-go.  The first goal was a deflection off him that ended up in the back of the net. Abdul struggled to position himself when the balls were lifted up. He finished with no interceptions, with a meagre, 1 clearance and 1 block.   Robert Lalthlamuana – 6/10He was the best defender in the back line for NorthEast. He tracked Francisco well and stopped his crosses from causing problems to the already shaky backline. He contributed offensively rarely which saw him finish his game with 1 cross. Robert's defensive contributions were impressive considering that his team conceded 3 goals. He had totalled 2 clearances and 3 blocks by the end of the 90 minutes.  Lalrindika Ralte – 5.5/10A lot was expected out of Lalrindika Ralte this game as he squared up against Jerry. Jerry completed dominated him and with the help of Dhanapal Ganesh and Bikramjit, Ralte’s threat was neutralized. He created just 1 chance and delivered only a single cross in the entire game and ended with a very poor 46% pass completion rate.  Holicharan Narzary – 6/10 Narzary was introduced for the misfiring Doungel with 56 minutes on the clock.  His touches and his dribbling were too much to handle for Inigo Calderon as he was beaten on multiple occasions but Narzary failed to make anything out of this momentary brilliance. He made 2 crosses and 2 interceptions down his wing and finished the game with an above average 64% passing rate. Narzary looked like a problem for CFC when he was brought on but his impact was nullified by the strong midfield and the Chennaiyin FC’s defence.
