Some of the players in this list are already making waves in the transfer market.
After Sergio Aguero left the club last summer to join FC Barcelona, Manchester City have faced difficulties in the attacking third. A few days back, even Ferran Torres completed his move to Barcelona. In such a situation, Pep Guardiola stated that the club will not sign a striker in January. Hence, it is estimated they will opt for someone in the upcoming summer. Who shall they bag to bring an end to the issues upfront?
Here’s a list of five players that Manchester City are likely to sign. However, only one name in this list isn’t linked with the club yet.
5. Divock Origi (Liverpool)
With his contract to conclude after the end of the ongoing season, Origi can be a good option for Manchester City. The 26-year-old hasn’t been receiving proper game-time at Liverpool. This season he has appeared only 10 times; five of them have come in the UEFA Champions League, three times in the Premier League and twice in the EFL Cup.

Adding to this, Origi has started in just four matches for the club, twice each in the UEFA Champions League and EFL Cup. In spite of receiving such low game-time, the Belgian hasn’t failed to score. In his 10 appearances, he has netted five times and even assisted twice. Undoubtedly, he will be a good option for Manchester City upfront. Point to be noted, he is the only one in this list, who hasn’t yet been linked with Man City!
4. Patrik Schick (Bayer Leverkusen)
The Czech striker would be another great option for the English club. Patrick Schick, 25, hasn’t yet plied his trade in England. He is currently an important component of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. Speaking about his statistics this season, Schick has scored 16 goals in 14 matches in the Bundesliga. However, he hasn’t appeared much in the Europa League, where he came on as a substitute in the first three matches and then missed out in the rest, due to an injury.
Schick even displayed a scintillating performance in the Euro 2020. He went on to score five times in the tournament; his team only scored six goals! His long-ranger against Scotland was also named as the goal of the tournament. The left-footed forward has the ability to score goals and may turn out a potential transfer target for Manchester City.
3. Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)
Kylian Mbappe will eventually be a free agent after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain comes to an end after the ongoing season. Real Madrid is also keen to sign Mbappe in order to strengthen their attack upfront. But according to rumours, a few months back Manchester City’s owner had provided a green signal to the club to enter the race in signing Mbappe!
City will surely create a problematic situation for Madrid, but the former definitely has the capability to emerge victorious in securing the 22-year-old’s signature. This season, Mbappe has made 24 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain and has bagged 15 goals and provided as many assists.
2. Dusan Vlahovic (Fiorentina)
The 21-year-old is currently plying his trade for Fiorentina in the Serie A. Dusan Vlahovic is certainly one of the candidates Pep Guardiola will be eager to have in his side. Reportedly, clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing the Serbian forward.

As mentioned earlier, City won’t be signing Ferran Torres’ replacement in January. Hence, if Vlahovic doesn’t join a new club in January, there are chances that City will go after his signature in the summer. In 22 appearances this season, Vlahovic has scored 18 times and assisted thrice.
1. Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund)
The 21-year-old has been under City’s priority list. Even his agent Mino Raiola spoke about the possibility of Haaland leaving Borussia Dortmund in the summer. He even claimed the blue half of Manchester to be a possible destination for his player. Haaland’s introduction to the team will be of an immense boost as City will have a goal-machine with them. They are currently having issues after Sergio Aguero’s departure.
Now after Torres’ move to Barcelona, a solid poacher upfront might be the best option for Guardiola’s side. A brief mention of his statistics so far this season: in 16 appearances in the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup, Haaland has scored 19 goals and provided five assists.
