PSG sealed a thrilling victory in tonight’s UEFA Super Cup clash.
Paris Saint-Germain took on Aston Villa in a feisty clash in the UEFA Super Cup 2026 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, on Wednesday night. Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue sealed a 2-1 win for the French giants.
After a cagey start to the match, PSG carved open the Villa defence with a clinical attacking move. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia found the back of the net in the 20th minute with a wonderful finish, leaving Marco Bizot helpless.
The Parisian giants continued to dominate the fixture from that moment, constantly troubling the Villa backline with wave after wave of attacks. Villa, however, slowly found their footing in the match, and Brian Madjo came close to equalising with a header that went just wide.
The 17-year-old eventually found the back of the net in the 45th minute, heading in John McGinn’s cross to draw Aston Villa level at half-time.
PSG came back strongly in the second half and got their big breakthrough just after the hour mark. Desire Doue was found with an excellent ball from Ousmane Dembele, with the former finishing coolly into the far corner. The goal stood after a VAR check, putting Les Parisiens ahead.
That strike proved to be the winner as Paris Saint-Germain held off late pressure from Aston Villa to seal a thrilling 2-1 victory, emerging as the UEFA Super Cup 2026 champions.

1. PSG simply too good
Can anybody stop this Paris Saint-Germain team? The French giants are back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners – only the second team to achieve this feat. Now, they have added back-to-back UEFA Super Cup titles to their trophy cabinet.
Few teams have looked so utterly dominant, including Barcelona under Pep Guardiola and Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane. PSG under Luis Enrique are firmly in that echelon.
2. World Cup absentees hurt Villa
Aston Villa were missing some key players for tonight’s match. Alejandro Garnacho was ruled out with a head injury, forcing Emery to field young George Hemmings on the left flank. Three more players were given extended holidays, having played in the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins missed out, while Emiliano Martinez was not in the squad either. Villa should be a much stronger side once these World Cup stars return to training.

3. Villa find PSG’s kryptonite
When Kvaratskhelia’s goal went in, Villa fans would have feared the worst. However, the Premier League side slowly found their footing in the match and found the one thing that PSG utterly struggled to deal with: lofted balls into the box. McGinn continued to float crosses into the penalty area, and Madjo – who had missed three chances before – finally converted one in the 45th minute to level the scores.

4. Madjo’s dream debut
Brian Madjo enjoyed all the highs and lows of football on his competitive debut. The 17-year-old gave away the ball that led to Kvaratskhelia’s opener and missed some golden chances after that. However, he never stopped running at the Parisian defenders, and eventually found the back of the net with a sublime header just before half-time. He is certainly one to watch in the coming years.
5. Dembele’s introduction makes the difference
Before the match, Luis Enrique raised some eyebrows by dropping Ousmane Dembele to the bench. His replacement, Maghnes Akliouche, failed to make his mark on his competitive debut for the Parisians. Dembele’s introduction at half-time reinvigorated his team, and it was the winger who found Doue, resulting in the goal that made it 2-1.
