Thomas Muller topped the chart for the third consecutive time.

In the  world of football, fans often prefer to watch fancy skills and value goals over everything. The underlying stats such as xG (expected goals) ,xA (expected assists) and many others are coming into the spotlight. However, let’s talk about something which is not an underlying stat but is often overlooked. 

The Bundesliga is an attacking league, where players often shine and exhibit their prowess. It has many goalscorers and assist-providers. Here are the five players with the most assists in Bundesliga 2021/2022.

5. Joshua Kimmich – 11

The German midfielder has become one of the best in the game in recent years. Yet again, another talented player has shone under Pep Guardiola. Kimmich learnt much about the game under the guidance of Guardiola when he managed Bayern. Joshua then won the Champions League with Bayern Munich playing a crucial role. He assisted the only goal in the final, which secured the Champions League for his team.

Kimmich is doing it consistently in the Bundesliga as well. He garnered 11 assists in the 2021/2022 season. He grabbed an assist on the final day as well against Wolfsburg. 

4. Moussa Diaby – 12

The youngster moved from Paris Saint Germain to Bayer Leverkusen in 2019. The transfer was imminent because it was made clear that he would get limited game-time in Paris. Even at Paris Saint Germain, Diaby only managed to score four goals in 37 games. Moussa was struggling at Bayer Leverkusen as well in his first season. But, Diaby managed to put up impressive numbers this season.

Moussa Diaby is also a threat when it comes to providing assists. He provided both of the assists for Paulinho and Patrik Schick against Frankfurt. In total he provided 12 assists in 32 Bundesliga games. Moussa has become an exciting prospect with many top clubs monitoring his situation.

3. Marco Reus – 12

Marco is the definition of loyalty. The German didn’t choose to leave Borussia Dortmund for Bayern despite promising offers. He chose to stay despite his best friends and teammates leaving for the Bavarians. Marco Reus is amongst the legends of the club. He is quite famous for scoring goals and providing assists regularly for Borussia Dortmund.

The German created a formidable duo with Erling Haaland. The two linked up well last season to give a tough fight against Manchester City. Reus setup Haaland for a hat-trick this season against Bochum. He has 12 assists in 29 games.

2. Christopher Nkunku – 13

Nkunku is one of the best players in the world as of now. He also played in Ligue 1 before heading to the German top flight league. Christopher first came into the spotlight after scoring a hat-trick against Manchester City in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Nkunku has not only put up great numbers in the Bundesliga but also in the Champions League. He scored seven goals in six games for RB Leipzig

Christopher was also RB Leipzig’s top scorer and highest assist-provider as well. The Frenchman scored 20 times in the league and provided 13 assists for his teammates.

Thomas Muller is quite arguably one of the most underrated footballers of our generation. Muller has the reputation of a passionate leader at Bayern Munich. The German Raumdeuter has the ability to score, create and provide assists on a regular basis. Muller has been a crucial part of the 2014 World Cup winning team and Bayern Munich’s Champions League success as well.

Muller has been at the top specifically in terms of assists over the last three seasons. Thomas is the highest assist-provider ever in a Bundesliga season (21 in 2019/20). Ever since then, he has been providing the most assists over the years . Thomas has the most assists this season (18 in 32 games).
