Greenwood is set to return to United after completing his loan stint at Getafe

Mason Greenwood of Manchester United is a forward that Borussia Dortmund are considering signing, according to recent reports. The team will make a decision following Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final matchup against Real Madrid.

After completing the season on loan at LaLiga side Getafe, where he scored eight goals in 33 league games and was awarded their Player of the Season, Greenwood, 22, is anticipated to come back to Old Trafford this summer.

With only a year remaining on his United contract, Greenwood might end up at Dortmund, who also signed winger Jadon Sancho on loan in January. Juventus and Atletico Madrid have also been linked to a deal for the one-cap England international.

“I don’t want to talk about any rumours now at the moment because it makes no sense,” Sporting Direction of Borussia Dortmund, Sebastian Kehl said. “Let’s play that final on Saturday.

“Of course we do have our plans for the next season and of course we discuss many scenarios, but nothing for today. Let’s focus, let’s anticipate that match on Saturday and then we’ll see how we move on.”

When asked if Greenwood is a player that Die Schwarzgelben admire, Kehl said, “I don’t want to talk about that now.”

German reports have stated that Dortmund are willing to loan out Greenwood. Addressing at the team’s Champions League final press day, Sebastian Kehl stated that all plans are on hold until following Saturday’s matchup between Dortmund and Real Madrid at Wembley.

Since making an appearance in the 1-0 Premier League victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford in January 2022, Greenwood hasn’t played on the pitch wearing a United kit. A few days later, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that he had been detained on suspicion of assault and rape.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) declared in October of that year that Greenwood would face charges of attempted rape, using coercive and abusive behaviour, and assault resulting in actual physical harm. The trial was scheduled for November 2023.
