Bayern Munich failed to score in the Der Klassiker for the first time since 2019

Borussia Dortmund have won the second Der Klassiker of the Bundesliga 2023-24 season. Edin Terzic’s side won 2-0 against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Karim Adeyemi scored the opener before Julian Ryerson wrapped up the match for the visiting side. This is their first win against Bayern since 2019. Thomas Tuchel’s slip in the title race.

Manuel Neuer was missing from Bayern’s team along with Raphael Gurreiro and Aleksandar Pavlovic. Dortmund were without Marcel Sabitzer, who was serving suspension. Donyell Malen and Kobel were also out with injuries.

Thomas Tuchel’s side played in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Ulreich started in goal and was guarded by Alphonso Davies, Dier, De Ligt and Joshua Kimmich. Leon Goretzka and Laimer started in the middle of the park. Harry Kane led the attack with the experience of Thomas Muller, the pace of Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala’s creativity.

Alexander Mayer was in the goal for Dortmund. Mats Hummels led a young defensive backline of Maatsen, Schlotterbeck and Ryerson. Julian Brandt, Emre Can and Nmecha played in the midfield. Fullkrug led the attack with Karim Adeyemi and Jadon Sancho.

Both teams returned to action after the international break. Borussia Dortmund surprised the home team with the opening goal inside the first 10 minutes. Karim Adeyemi was behind Julian Brandt’s pass and he scored the goal in style. The away side did enough and kept their lead in the first 45 minutes. Bayern only managed to hit the target only once from their nine shot attempts.

Bayern Munich tried their best to get a goal back. They had more possession of the ball but failed to test the opposition goalkeeper. Edin Terzic’s side took full advantage of the situation and scored their second of the evening through Julian Ryerson. Substitute Sebastien Haller created the second goal of the match. Harry Kane scored a goal from a header deep into the match. However, the forward was ruled offside.

This win for Dortmund takes them to fourth spot in the league table. Earlier, RB Leipzig dropped points against Mainz 05 and have allowed Dortmund to take a three-point lead in the race for the Champions League.

Thomas Tuchel’s side lost their fifth match of the season. They are now 13 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. This has given a huge advantage to Xabi Alonso’s men and they can even secure the title way before the final gameweek.
