11 Chelsea players are heading into the World Cup.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is right around the corner, with the footballing world preparing for the grandest sporting spectacle.

The tournament is set to be co-hosted by the USA, Mexico and Canada, as the competition returns to North America after 32 years. It will also feature a record 48 teams participating in the competition. From favourites to debutants, the nations have announced their final squads for the newest edition.

Before the tournament, FIFA has upgraded the Club Benefits Programme (CBP) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under this structure, FIFA will distribute a record $355 million to compensate clubs for releasing their players. Teams are set to earn an estimated daily rate between $11,000 and $15,000 per player.

With the new structure, thousands of clubs worldwide are expected to receive payments, helping in their development. A team will now receive a minimum estimated amount of $150,000 per player, even if they get eliminated in the group stages.

Chelsea, one of England’s most historic clubs, had an abysmal season, finishing 10th in the Premier League. They missed out on European football for next season. Despite such a poor outing, several players from the club earned deserved call-ups for their exceptional performances.

11 players will be representing the side in the World Cup, becoming the fifth most featured English team in the tournament. One of the most notable additions was Kendry Páez. The 19-year-old youngster is set to don Ecuadorian colours in the tournament.

Chelsea had excellent performers who received the deserved call-up. One of the most notable additions was the team captain, Reece James. The English right-back made his last appearance for his nation in November 2025, before sustaining a hamstring injury.

With his World Cup spot in jeopardy, Reece James made a remarkable recovery. He proved his fitness to manager Thomas Tuchel by returning to the pitch and delivering remarkable performances.

However, the exclusion of striker Joao Pedro caused massive controversy. The Brazilian was left out, even after registering 29 G/A from 53 appearances, and ultimately winning the Chelsea Player of the Year award.
