The City Football Group own a total of 13 football clubs across multiple continents. They have their presence in Europe, the Americas and Asia as well. The model of their organisation allows them to develop talent in different countries.

The City group also help the clubs in creating commercial synergies while respecting their local identity. They own a total of five clubs in the European region, four in the Americas and four in Asia-Pacific, which truly reflects their global strategy. The player scouting and developing networks are very similar across all of their clubs, creating a powerful ecosystem.

13. Melbourne City FC (Australia)

On their establishment in 2009, they were initially known as Melbourne Heart. However once acquired by the CFG in 2014, they changed their name to Melbourne City FC. They are known as one of the dominant forces in the A-League.

They fluctuate between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 from time to time, depending on their performances. ESTAC Troyes were founded in 1986 but roots back to 1900 as Union Sportive Troyenne. They have won the Intertoto Cup in 2001 and a Ligue 2 title during 2014-15.

The City Football Group acquired them in 2020.

The club were established in 2003. They were known as Lommel United at that time. They have spent most of their time in Belgium’s second tier.

They were renamed to Lommel SK in 2017 and were acquired by CFG in 2020.

10. Montevideo City Torque (Uruguay)

They were founded as Club Atlético Torque in 2007. The club quickly rose through Uruguay’s divisions and reached the top division in 2017. The Uruguay-based club were acquired by CFG in 2017.

They were renamed to Montevideo City Torque under the City Football Group.

9. Bahia (Brazil)

The club are based in Salvador and were established in 1931. Bahia are a historic club. They have a couple of Brazilian Championships to their name, with a passionate fanbase always supporting them.

The City Football Group acquired the majority stake in the club in 2023.

8. Club Bolívar (Bolivia)

Club Bolivar are the most successful club in Bolivia, with 29 league titles to their name. They were founded in 1925 and have played some top-level football in Bolivia. Club Bolívar are the first official CFG partner club, where the private organisation does not have full ownership.

7. Shenzhen Peng City (China)

The China-based club were established in 2017. Shenzhen Peng City compete in the Chinese Super League, which is the top tier of football in China. The City Group acquired the club in 2019.

It became an important part of their Asia strategy.

6. Mumbai City FC (India)

They have been an important part of the Indian Super League (ISL). Mumbai City FC were founded in 2014 and were later fully acquired by the City group in 2019. Even though they have won the league title once, they still play a crucial role in Indian football.

5. Yokohama F. Marinos (Japan)

They were founded as Nissan Motors SC in 1972 and are one of the most successful Japanese clubs. Yokohama F. Marinos have multiple J1 League titles to their name and have been mostly known for their strong youth system and fanbase. The City Football Group acquired a minority stake in the club in 2014.

4. New York City FC (USA)

New York City FC were established in 2013 and debuted in Major League Soccer in 2015. The City Group were one of the founding members of the club and hold the majority stake in the club. They have decent competitive success and strong fan support, which they are known for.

3. Palermo FC (Italy)

One of the most well-known clubs in Italy were founded back in 1900. Palermo FC do have a history in Serie A and the UEFA Europa League, but were declared bankrupt in 2019.

They restarted their journey from Serie D and are currently in Serie B. Palermo became a part of the City group in July 2022 after the organisation acquired the majority stake.

2. Girona FC (Spain)

Girona FC were founded in 1930. They have spent most of their history in the lower divisions. They are known for their rapid rise and strong local support after they were promoted to LaLiga in 2017. In the same year, the City Football Group acquired a part of the Spanish club.

The English Premier League club were founded back in 1880 as St. Mark’s West Gorton and became Manchester City in 1894. Even though they do not have a very rich history, City are one of the most dominant football clubs in the English football scene in the modern era. They were acquired by City Group in 2008.

All of their Premier League title wins came after the City Football Group takeover, and they now have nine titles to their name.
