Los Cafeteros’ will look to extend their winning streak in upcoming fixtures.

The Colombian Football Federation have unveiled their 28-man provisional squad for the upcoming 2024 Copa America in the United States. Colombia’s Head Coach Nestor Lorenzo included a mix of experience and youth, with two players to be cut before the final tournament roster is submitted.

The players will assemble at the Colombian National Team headquarters in Barranquilla on May 25th, where they’ll train until June 5th. Friendly matches against the USA and Bolivia will follow before their Copa America opener against Paraguay.

Colombia’s goalkeeping department boasts a reassuring trio. Club Atlas’s Camilo Vargas, fresh off his vacation, will be looking to replicate his impressive form in Mexico’s Liga MX. He’ll be joined by the experienced Álvaro Montero of Millonarios FC and the legendary David Ospina, who is currently negotiating to return to his Colombian roots with Atletico Nacional after a stint in Saudi Arabia.

Nestor Lorenzo has placed his faith in a blend of experience and youthful exuberance in midfield. The ever-reliable James Rodriguez remains the creative fulcrum of the team, his experience and vision are invaluable in dictating the game’s tempo.

Alongside him, youngsters like Yaser Asprilla, Jorge Carrascal, and Jhon Arias will look to make their mark on the international stage for Colombia.

Colombia will use the upcoming friendlies against Bolivia (June 8th) and the United States (June 15th) to experiment with tactics and solidify team combinations.

These matches will provide a valuable opportunity for fringe players to stake their claim for a place in the final Copa America squad.

Colombia heads into the Copa America on a remarkable 21-game unbeaten streak, a run that includes impressive victories over European powerhouses like Spain, Germany, and even Brazil. This unbeaten record serves as a testament to the team’s resilience and tactical acumen under Lorenzo.

With a squad boasting a healthy mix of experience and youthful exuberance, Colombia will be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming tournament. Their opening match against Paraguay on June 20th in Houston, Texas, promises to be an electrifying encounter, setting the stage for what could be a historic Copa America campaign for the Colombian national team.
