The battle for European spots will make Signal Iduna Park come to life

Borussia Dortmund were active in the recent UEFA Champions League games. A 2-0 win in the Leg 2 helped them win 3-1 on aggregate and progress from the Round of 16 stages. Back in the Bundesliga, Dortmund are holding on to the final UCL qualification spot as they are just a point above RB Leipzig in the 4th place.

Eintracht Frankfurt are no longer active in any European competition. They bowed out of the UEFA Europa Conference League after a 4-3 aggregate loss to Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. But they have a 7-point cushion over the 7th-place position as Frankfurt will want to get back in the European competition as soon as next year.

Players to Watch

Donyell Malen (Dortmund)

The Dutch winger is surely one of the exciting players in the ranks of the current Dortmund team playing under Edin Terzić. Donyell Malen arrived with a very good reputation from PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The 2021 summer signing has 11 Bundesliga goals plus 2 assists having made 22 appearances this season.

Mario Götze (Frankfurt)

Things get very exciting when a former superstar visits his old stomping ground. Mario Götze used to be a Signal Iduna Park regular having made a total of 158 German first-tier league games appearances for his former club.

Götze has made 54 league appearances for Frankfurt so far. In the last game, the attacking midfielder was on the scoresheet once plus also made an assist in the 3-1 win over Hoffenheim.

  • Frankfurt have won only one of the last 14 Bundesliga battles against Die Schwarzgelben
