All the eyeballs will be on the hosts while they try to make home advantage count

The 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship which will also go by the name of EURO 2024 will begin from 14 June. The month-long tournament will be hosted in the nation of Germany. The German national football team will kickstart the competition against Scotland.

Being the host nation, Germany will garner more attention than they usually do. The Group A is completed with two more nations – Hungary and Switzerland. Julian Nagelsmann is tasked to manage the team and under whose supervision veteran Toni Kroos has come out of retirement.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

GK: Manuel Neuer

The 37-year-old is likely to give his lengthy experience to the squad by being the man in between the posts. Manuel Neuer has fully recovered from a broken leg that kept him out for almost a year. After that, Neur has handled the responsibilities for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga as well. The veteran keeper has kept 6 clean sheets after playing 16 league games for his club.

RB: Joshua Kimmich

The best option at right-back had to be Joshua Kimmich. The 29-year-old has made 82 national team appearances. Joshua Kimmich can also play as a defensive midfielder. This might even help Nagelsmann play with different tactics mid-game without even having to make a substitution.

CB: Jonathan Tah

Both the above players shared one thing in common that is their club identity. Jonathan Tah on the other hand brings his best due to his commendable defending for German first-tier league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. The 28-year-old is 1.95 metres tall.

CB: Antonio Rüdiger

Tah will be partnered with former Chelsea and current Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger. If a player is playing regular football for the mighty Los Blancos, he has to be world-class. Rüdiger has made 23 LaLiga appearances for his club this season.

LB: Benjamin Henrichs

The 27-year-old full-back who wears the kit of RB Leipzig is expected to fill in the left-back role in this 4-2-3-1 setup. Just like Rüdiger, Benjamin Henrichs has also made the same number of league game appearances but in the Bundesliga. Henrichs made 3 assists and scored once in that period.

CM: Toni Kroos

Just a few weeks back, Toni Kroos did the unthinkable. The midfield maestro has returned from international retirement. Head coach Julian Nagelsmann played a major role in the convincing. “I’ll be playing for Germany again. Why? Because I was asked by the coach and I’m up for it,” said Kroos on social media platform Instagram to announce his comeback.

CM: Robert Andrich

Robert Andrich is a player who reminds oneself of Sami Khedira. Khedira was the winner of the 2014 FIFA World Cup title with Die Mannschaft. Andrich will be a very good option with his work rate and physicality to partner Kroos in the central midfield.

RM: Florian Wirtz

At just 20 years of age, Florian Wirtz is expected to star on one of the attacking flanks for his national team. At club level, Wirtz provides his football services to current league leaders Leverkusen. For Xabi Alonso’s team, the young talent has handed in 10 assists while also scoring 5 goals in the league.

CAM: İlkay Gündoğan

The former Manchester City player continues to be a crucial part of the host nation’s tactics. İlkay Gündoğan who currently sets foot on the pitch wearing the colours of FC Barcelona used to be a famed part of the Bundesliga. Gündoğan was even playing for Borussia Dortmund from 2011 to 2016.

LM: Jamal Musiala

With Wirtz occupying one of the flanks, the other one is rightly set to be occupied by Jamal Musiala. The 21-year-old has 21 caps for the German national football team. This season in the German first tier, Musiala has 7 goals and 3 assists.

ST: Niclas Füllkrug

The team will try and feed the ball mostly to their striker Niclas Füllkrug. The 31-year-old forward plays for Dortmund in the German league. This season alone, Füllkrug has netted 11 goals while also providing 8 assists after featuring in 24 domestic league games.
