Italy announce provisional squad for Euro 2024

Azzurri will play friendlies with Turkey and Bosnia before the start of the tournament

Ahead of the forthcoming European Championship, Luciano Spalletti has formally revealed his preliminary 30-man Italy roster.

The Azzurri are preparing for a crucial competition in Germany, where they will compete as the defending champions after their historic triumph in the previous summer of 2021.

After joining the Italy national team in September of last year, Spalletti launched a fresh initiative and enthralled supporters with his upbeat brand of 4-3-3 play. With their recent inability to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, the Azzurri have high hopes.

Italy beat England in penalties to win the Championship at Wembley under manager Roberto Mancini, but the former Man City head coach failed to guide them to the 2022 World Cup and in 2023 he stepped down as their head coach.

Prior to the European Championship, Spalletti selected his preliminary 30-man Italy squad, as was disclosed today. There is a 26-player maximum for each squad in the event, meaning that four players must be cut.

Italy provisional squad for Euro 2024:

Goalkeepers: Donnarumma (PSG), Vicario (Tottenham), Meret (Napoli), Carnesecchi (Atalanta);

Defenders: Acerbi, Bastoni (Inter), Darmian (Inter), Scalvini (Atalanta), Buongiorno (Torino), Mancini (Roma), Calafiori (Bologna), Di Lorenzo (Napoli), Bellanova (Torino), Dimarco (Inter), Cambiaso (Juventus);

Midfielders: Barella (Inter), Frattesi (Inter), Cristante (Roma), Pellegrini (Roma), Fagioli (Juventus), Jorginho (Arsenal), Ricci (Torino), Folorunsho (Hellas Verona);

Forwards: Chiesa (Juventus), Raspadori (Napoli), Retegui (Genoa), Scamacca (Atalanta), Orsolini (Bologna), Zaccagni (Lazio), El Shaarawy (Roma).
