Kobbie Mainoo scored a goal in United’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool
After seeing Kobbie Mainoo versus Liverpool, former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic was overcome with awe and likened him to Luka Modric.
The Red Devils’ chances of winning the Premier League were dented on Sunday at Old Trafford as they were unable to defeat their fierce rivals 2-2 thanks to a goal from Mainoo in the second half.
Mainoo is being likened to another football icon after making his breakthrough into the United first squad under Erik ten Hag this season.Rio Ferdinand and Dimitar Berbatov have reportedly compared the 18-year-old midfielder to Paul Scholes and Clarence Seedorf, respectively.
Mainoo resembles Vidic of Real Madrid’s legendary Modric, who is recognised as one of the greatest midfield players of every era, the midfielder has now stated.
In the meantime, Vidic has backed Jarell Quansah of Liverpool after his terrible error that allowed Bruno Fernandes to open the scoring within the centre circle.

Mainoo has been fantastic,’ Vidic told Premier League Productions. ‘Especially his awareness. He reminds me sometimes of Modric.
‘He always feels who is behind him. You can see, he took the first touch, straight away moved to the side, then it was a great strike. He’s difficult to defend against.’
‘Yeah he is [more than a holding midfielder],’ Rooney said. ‘I watched him play against Nottingham Forest as well.
According to fellow commentator Wayne Rooney, Erik ten Hag needs to be playing Mainoo in a more offensive role and further up the pitch.
‘He played a little higher, so he can certainly do that. When he got the ball he drove at the Liverpool backline. Great first touch and the finish is incredible.’
‘It’s an obvious mistake,’ Vidic added. ‘But I have to say, he was magnificent. He played with personality. That’s what it takes to play for a big club like Liverpool.
‘Obviously a great finish by Bruno. I made mistakes in my career at United and the most important thing is not to make it again. So praise to him, he’s a young boy, he’s strong enough physically and finished the game well.’
