Kobbie Mainoo made his first-ever England start against Belgium
Jude Bellingham’s last-gasp strike at Wembley saved a stumbling England from the shame of a second straight defeat.
The Real Madrid player’s goal was almost the last kick of the match as England, who were defeated by Brazil on Saturday, secured a late draw with Belgium. However, England’s performance was ruined by two costly mistakes made by Lewis Dunk, the defender, and custodian Jordan Pickford, which allowed Youri Tielemans to put Belgium ahead.
Following the match, Bellingham, the hero of England, said:
‘I know the rubbish we would have got if we had lost two games on the bounce. You have to keep perspective in mind with these games, there’s a lot of lads making debuts, a lot of those boys I have played with before.
‘We created a lot of chances, I had one where I should have scored and a couple of other shots at goal, I’m happy I can make it up to the team but we really should be winning with all the chances we made. But these two games will stand us in good stead heading into the Euros.
Bellingham praised the debutants, including Mainoo and said:

“Kobbie Mainoo is very good. I know how hard it can be when there’s a clamour and people put a lot of pressure on you… but he’s definitely a brilliant player. He’s going to have an amazing future at Man United and hopefully for England as well”.
On Tuesday, Ezri Konsa, Ivan Toney (who struck England’s opening goal), and Kobbie Mainoo earned their debuts for the national team. Particularly noteworthy was Mainoo, a teenage player for Manchester United.
In the Three Lions’ most recent international friendly, which finished 2-2, against Belgium, Manchester United and now England star Kobbie Mainoo gave a fantastic display that won him a Man of the Match title.
Mainoo is going to be the one making headlines. In his 74-minute appearance at Wembley, the 18-year-old made his debut for his country’s senior team and made sure he delighted Gareth Southgate and co. in the lead-up to Euro 2024.
