List of all South American friendlies ahead of Copa America 2024; Lionel Messi's Argentina to face Ecuador & Guatemala
Cope America is set to start on 20th June
It’s time for the footballers and fans to turn their attention to the international arena as the 2023–24 football season draws to a close. The Copa America 2024, which will take place in the United States of America, with 16 teams going against one another starting on June 20.
Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, is the defending champion as they take on the oldest ongoing international football competition. With 15 titles apiece, Argentina and Uruguay lead the Copa America standings. Brazil, another South American powerhouse and the most accomplished team in the FIFA World Cup (having won five titles), is in second place with nine championships.
Leading the assault for Argentina and Brazil, respectively, will be Lionel Messi and Vinicius Junior, two CONMEBOL members who are the clear favourites to win the tournament. But when the 1930 World Cup champions try to establish themselves in the South American game, don’t write them off.
Currently atop the World Cup qualifying standings, La Albiceleste has collected 15 of a possible 18 points. They have achieved this with strong defence; in six games, they have given up just two goals while scoring eight well-timed goals themselves.
With Lionel Messi still playing well and healthy for the Copa America competition the following year, Argentina had a strong chance of retaining their Copa America title and capturing three major titles in a row.
In international friendlies prior to the tournament, the teams will settle into a rhythm by trying out their provisional lineups. Check out the schedule for every game that will be played prior to the start of this important tournament:
