Top five long term replacements for Dani Carvajal at Real Madrid
Right back Dani Carvajal has been with Los Blancos for 12 years
The 2023-24 LaLiga season has reached more than halfway through its course. At the moment, the 14-time UEFA Champions League winners lead the Spanish first-tier standings. After 27 league games, Los Blancos have collected 66 points on the table. The side is even in contention for the ongoing Champions League competition. They made it to the quarter-finals after defeating RB Leipzig over two legs in the Round of 16.
Over the years, there has been a common group of players involved in winning the last few UCL titles for the Madrid-based club. From Cristiano Ronaldo to Toni Kroos, everyone seemingly has been replaced or their successor has been acquired under President Florentino Pérez.
Fullback Dani Carvajal has been one such long-serving player whose replacement is yet to be found. With Carvajal having turned 32 this January, Madrid are hoping to get a replacement while he is still around as his career time is limited. The following right-backs are talents that the Spanish giants might wanna go after.
5. Pedro Porro (Tottenham Hotspur)
Pedro Porro has made quite a name for himself. The right-back used to be in the ranks of Manchester City from the summer of 2019 to 2022, but mostly his time was spent out on loan. In his time with Sporting CP, Porro’s skills came to limelight. Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur signed him permanently before the start of this season. So far the player has made 23 appearances while putting in 8 assists.
Real Madrid wanted to sign Pedro Porro in the 2023 summer. The 24-year-old, now player of Spurs could easily come in as a successor to Dani Carvajal.
4. Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain)
Paris Saint-Germain acquired the services of Achraf Hakimi after negotiating a €68 million fee with Inter Milan. This deal with the Italian outfit happened back in July 2021 and so far the former Real Madrid player has made 108 appearances for the French side. In those appearances, the player has managed to output 13 goals and 17 assists.
Hakimi is a Real Madrid youth product who has also lifted the UCL trophy for the 2017-18 season with their senior team. The 25-year-old is good in both attack and in defence. Florentino Pérez could try his luck for the Moroccan international that they didn’t trust as a starter a few years back.

3. Iván Fresneda (Sporting CP)
After a lot of speculation and numerous interests from the big clubs in Europe, Iván Fresneda ended up joining Sporting CP last summer. A season prior, the Spaniard was playing in LaLiga for Real Valladolid. During his time in the Spanish first division, the full-back had made 22 appearances. His efforts on the pitch had attracted many potential suitors out of which Portuguese side Sporting got the man.
Fresneda hasn’t even turned 20 yet. At just 19 years of age, the player has many more years to deliver top-class football. Without a doubt, if Real Madrid comes calling, the teenager could be swayed by a move back to home country. Moreover, it comes with the reason of replacing a club legend at the right-back position for a massive club.
2. Reece James (Chelsea)
Apart from spending a season on loan at Wigan Athletic in 2018-19, Reece James has always worn the kits of Chelsea. Be it from his days in the youth setup to even captaining now the senior team. Yes, James is the club captain of the Blues who participates regularly in the Premier League competition. The England international has been troubled with injuries throughout this season. Still, he has managed to play eight league games in which the 24-year-old has managed an assist.
Signing a club captain of a big PL club is surely gonna cost a good sum. But that shouldn’t be much of a problem for Real Madrid. The big part will be convincing the player who was born in London and has Chelsea in his heart.
1. Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)
If we have a look at the domestic first-tier table of German football, something is a bit unusual. The Bundesliga is not being led by either Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund or any other usual suspect. There’s a new ruler in the league. Bayer Leverkusen is the side still undefeated and roaring to win this season’s league title. Xabi Alonso’s side is robust and every player is wanted by other clubs. One of those has to be Jeremie Frimpong.
So far Frimpong has secured 8 goals and 7 assists after making 23 league appearances. A noteworthy exciting player who is still 23 years of age. And if Xabi Alonso makes a move to become manager of Real Madrid, it will be a no-brainer to decide the first choice as a replacement for Dani Carvajal.
