Manchester United identify Levi Colwill as Jarrad Branthwaite alternative: Reports

United could turn to Colwill if they fail to sign Branthwaite
If Manchester United are unable to sign Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, they have reportedly selected Chelsea star Levi Colwill as a backup. It has been stated numerous times in various news outlets that Branthwaite is a top defensive target for United going into the summer transfer window.
The Englishman had a stellar 2023-24 season, ranking among the Toffees’s finest players. He and James Tarkowski forged a strong alliance in the defence which was essential for their team’s success in avoiding relegation by the end of the campaign.
The talented 21-year-old assisted his team to keep 12 clean sheets in 35 Premier League games. According to a report published this month, Manchester United are getting ready to submit a £55 million deal for the services of Branthwaite.
The Merseyside team is said to believe he is worth a lot more than that, and they won’t let go of its centre defender for anything below £80 million, a price that United are unlikely to agree to pay at the moment.
The Daily Star claims that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has informed Everton that he will no longer be held hostage over Branthwaite and that he is ready to move on and find another partner.
According to the publication, United and Everton appear to be on a “collision course” regarding Brainthwaite’s transfer fee, and the agreement may fall through.

Should this occur, United will focus on other players, such as Colwill (Chelsea), Gleison Bremer (Juventus), and Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace).
Although the Red Devils’ interest in Bremer and Guehi is well known, the Colwill connections are most recent. Even though Colwill signed a new long-term contract with the Blues last summer, the Red Devils may try to persuade them to sell for a reasonable price.
The Southampton native played 32 games for Chelsea in all competitions, 23 of which came in the Premier League. Colwill earned one goal and the same number of assists during that period.
