Netherlands predicted lineup for UEFA Euro 2024
The Oranje will hope to add a second European title to their record.
The Netherlands men’s football team will be strong contenders to win the upcoming 2024 UEFA European Championship which is taking place in Germany. Positioned in Group D alongside Austria, France and Poland, Ronald Koeman’s men will be favourites to grab one of the two places and advance into the knockout stages if things go well.
The outfit has several high-profile players who will be looking to add a second European title to the country’s record. With only one UEFA Euro win coming in 1988, the country has underachieved historically.
The fans of Dutch football are passionate and highly demanding. They expect the players to deliver considering the quality of the squad which boasts of figures like Virgil van Dijk, Frenkie De Jong and more. As the tournament nears, here is a look at the predicted lineup for the Netherlands at the 2024 UEFA European Championships.
Netherlands Predicted Lineup (Formation 3-4-3):
GK – Bart Verbruggen
The Netherlands focus on playing a possession-based style of football which aims to build out from the back. In such scenarios, having a goalkeeper who is accustomed to such a system is important. Bart Verbruggen plays for Brighton & Hove Albion at club level and is sound with the ball on his feet. He is likely to start over other options in goal.
RCB – Matthijs de Ligt
It will be interesting to see how Ronald Koeman utilises his options in defence as the Netherlands have plenty of world-class defenders. Matthijs de Ligt is a player who cannot be left on the bench and must be among the starters.
CB – Virgil van Dijk
Virgil van Dijk is the sort of leader which every team needs in order to win a trophy. The Liverpool FC player is a rock at the back. He will be a key player for the Netherlands at the tournament. His objective would be to prevent the opposition from scoring and contributing in corner-kick situations with his aerial prowess.
LCB – Nathan Ake
Nathan Ake adds a lot of versatility in defence. The left-footed defender won the Premier League with Manchester City, bringing a winning mentality to the side. The 29-year-old is confident on the ball and an expert at building moves from the back.

RWB – Jeremie Frimpong
Jeremi Frimpong is an exciting player who had a mindblowing season with Bayer Leverkusen, winning the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal. The 23-year-old is a great option in the right wing-back role and enters the tournament with 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.
CM – Joey Veerman
Joey Veerman is a decent option in the midfield as he brings in a lot of balance. While the Oranje are spoilt for choices in the midfield position with several impressive options, Veerman complements Frenke de Jong well. His performances for PSV Eindhoven were superb as the club went on to win the Dutch Eredivisie.
CM – Frenkie de Jong
Frenkie de Jong is fighting to be fit for the 2024 UEFA European Championships as the Netherlands pin their hopes on the star midfielder. The FC Barcelona midfielder plays the deep-lying playmaker role exceptionally well and will be crucial to the outfit’s success in the tournament.
LWB – Denzel Dumfries
Denzel Dumfries is most likely going to start in the left-wing-back role. Ronald Koeman has few options in that position with Feyenoord’s Quilindschy Hartman suffering from a long-term injury in March.
RW – Xavi Simons
Xavi Simons is a hot prospect with plenty of top European clubs set to fight for his signature in the summer transfer window. The attacking winger is likely to start for the Netherlands at the European Championships. With 10 goals and 13 assists for RB Leipzig in all competitions, the expectations will be high for him.
LW – Cody Gakpo
Cody Gakpo did not have the most promising season at Liverpool FC yet scored 16 goals for the club in all competitions. The upcoming 2024 UEFA Euros is a great opportunity for the former PSV Eindhoven forward to silence his critics. He adds a lot of quality in the final third for the Netherlands.
ST – Memphis Depay
Memphis Depay is currently a free agent but is focused towards contributing to his country before deciding his next club. The former Atletico Madrid forward has 45 goals in 91 caps for the national team and will be hoping to add more goals to his tally at the tournament.
