A 23-man squad have been announced by the Super Eagles

The Nigeria national football team will be in action next month. The nation will be involved in two games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the month of June.

The Super Eagles are currently in third place in Group C of the African qualifiers. Rwanda currently leads the group with four points followed by South Africa who have three points. Nigeria have so far only managed two points on the table having played two group fixtures back in November 2023.

Now, in June, they have a chance to battle their superior in the group at the moment, South Africa. This will be played out at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Nigeria itself. After this 8 June fixture, Finidi George’s men will take on Benin on June 10.

The Super Eagles went to the ultimate depth of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations only to lose out to Ivory Coast in the finals. They have a strong team and will be looking to add further points to the Group C table. Their last FIFA World Cup appearance was in the 2018 Russia edition. The following list chosen by George has a total of 23 names for the qualifiers come June.

Nigeria squad for next month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers:

Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United), Maduka Okoye (Udinese Calcio), Ojo Olorunleke (Enyimba Aba)

Defenders: Bright Osayi-Samuel (Fenerbahce), Semi Ajayi (West Brom), Calvin Bassey (Fulham), Chidozie Awaziem (Boavista), Benjamin Tanimu (Ihefu S.C.), Sadiq Ismael (Remo Stars)

Midfielders: Frank Onyeka (Brentford), Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester), Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge), Alex Iwobi (Fulham), Alhassan Yusuf (Royal Antwerp), Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (Hatayspor)

Forwards: Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta BC), Terem Moffi (OGC Nice), Nathan Tella (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan), Victor Osimhen (SSC Napoli), Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor), Victor Boniface (Bayer 04 Leverkusen)
