Goals are the main element of football and of course in winning matches. Since its inception in 1963, the Bundesliga has been home to some of European football’s best goalscorers. Becoming a prolific striker in the Bundesliga is a Herculean task. It requires a unique blend of skill, athleticism and mental resilience. Jinking one’s way past world-class defenders and consistently beating the goalkeeper is a highly arduous task.
Bundesliga is a part of the top five leagues in Europe, with a very rich history. Many clinical strikers have played and broken records in the competition. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the top 10 players with the fewest games needed to reach 50 goals in the Bundesliga.
10. Dieter Muller (K.Offenbach/ 1.FC Koln) – 79 matches
Muller used to play as a striker in his playing days and he represented West Germany 12 times. He played for some big clubs in Germany like VfB Stuttgart. He had the best time of his career with FC Koln where he played 248 matches and scored 159 goals for them. It took him 79 games to score 50 Bundesliga goals. Muller was known for his leadership and clinical finishing ability on the pitch.

9. Andre Silva (Eintracht Frankfurt/ RB Leipzig) – 78 matches
The Portuguese international is currently playing as a striker for RB Leipzig and has played 53 times for his national team. Silva has a great first touch and very efficiently is able to get past defenders. He is a decent dribbler who likes to take on players and is a hardworking player on the pitch. The biggest strength of Silva is his movement inside the box which causes a lot of trouble to the opposition defenders. It took him 78 games to score 50 Bundesliga goals.
8. Grafite (Wolfsburg) – 77 matches
The Brazilian played for VfL Wolfsburg for four seasons and played a key role in helping the team to win the 2008-09 Bundesliga. That year he was also Germany’s player of the year. In 107 appearances he scored 59 times. In his career, he played four times for the Selecao. Due to his strong physicality, he was able to beat opposition players and was a lethal goalscorer.
7. Horst Hrubesch (RWE/ HSV) – 74 matches
Horst is currently a manager and his last job was with Germany’s Women’s National Team. As a player, he used to play as a Centre Forward. He played for West Germany 21 times and netted six goals. Over the course of his entire career, he scored 136 goals in 224 games in the Bundesliga. During his playing days, he was known to be a very disciplined and hard-working player.

6. Rudolf Brunnenmeier (1860 Munich) – 70 matches
He is a legend of 1860 Munich and as a player, he was five times Player of the Year. He played 207 games for 1860 Munich and scored 139 goals for them. For West Germany, he played five matches and netted three goals. He was known for his consistency and selflessness on the pitch. Rudolf also won the Bundesliga with 1860 Munich in the 1965-66 season.
5. Uwe Seeler (HSV) – 67 matches
As a striker, he was a prolific scorer for Hamburger SV and also made 72 appearances for the West Germany National Team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in German football history. Seeler was named one of FIFA’s 100 greatest living players by Pele in 2014. Due to his professionalism and personality, he was respected by everyone.
4. Roy MaKaay (FC Bayern Munich) – 67 matches
The Dutchman was known for his goal-scoring ability during his playing days. He didn’t have any weaker foot and used to score perfectly with both of his feet. During his time at Bayern Munich, he picked up the nickname Das Phantom for his ability to score out of nowhere. With Bayern, he won Bundesliga and DFB pokal and in 129 matches he scored 78 goals.

3. Friedhelm Konietzka (BVB/ 1860 Munich) – 63 matches
Despite being short in stature he was a top-quality striker in his playing days. Despite being so consistent with his performance he was not selected for the West Germany National Team on many different occasions. Still, he played nine matches for the National Team and scored three goals. With Dortmund, he won the DFB Pokal and Bundesliga and with 1860 Munich again he won the Bundesliga. After retiring from the game he also became a manager and managed top teams in the Bundesliga.
2. Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund) – 50 matches
Probably one of the best strikers in the world as of now. The Norwegian is a monster when it comes to goal-scoring. Already he has broken many records till now. His time at Dortmund was not long but still, he helped the team immensely and was scoring goals for fun. In only 50 games he scored 50 goals. He won the DFB Pokal with Dortmund in 2021.
1. Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) – 43 matches
England’s Harry Kane smashed Erling Haaland’s Bundesliga record on Friday, becoming the fastest player to reach 50 Bundesliga goals. Kane scored a hattrick in a 3-0 win over Augsburg. Kane is in great form since joining Bayern Munich from Spurs in the summer of 2023 and it took him only 43 games to score 50 goals in the German top-flight. Kane will surely play an important role in Bayern’s success this season.
