The Portuguese star will participate in his sixth Euro tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo, at the age of 39, will lead Portugal in their attempt to win the European Championship once more—possibly in the last major competition of his extraordinary career.

Ronaldo was a major factor in Portugal’s victory at Euro 2016 and their qualification for this tournament, as Roberto Martinez’s team won all ten of their games.

Ronaldo, who was 19 when he made his Euro 2004 debut, has the ability to break one record just by walking onto the pitch. He can undoubtedly become the only male player to have represented his nation at six Euros this month, making him the only such player to have done so in Euro.

Chances created at European Championship

Ronaldo does not currently own every attacking record. Since 1980, the record for most chances created is held by a Portuguese great, but not Ronaldo, as Luis Figo sits at the top with 42, a legendary Portuguese player.

The list further down the line has Ronaldo at 41, Germany’s Mesut Ozil at 40, the Czech Republic’s Karel Poborsky at 39 and Zidane at 38. Ronaldo is only one behind equalling his former teammate Figo and two to take over the leading position.

Ronaldo can become the oldest player to score a goal in Euro

Ronaldo is not the most senior player in the Portugal team, even at 39; teammate Pepe holds that title.

The Portuguese phenom has the potential to surpass Austria’s Ivica Vastic, who held the record for the oldest scorer in tournament history at 38 years and 257 days. The defender had scored in a 1-1 draw against Poland back in 2008.

Three years back, Leonardo Bonucci of Italy scored at the age of thirty-four when he equalised against England. But still, Vastic’s record remains intact. Can Ronaldo break it at the Euro 2024? Only time will tell.

Ronaldo can score against 50 nations if Portugal goes deep into the tournament

Portugal, rated sixth in the world, have the easiest group of all the top seeds statistically because none of its opponents are in the top 35. Georgia is the lowest-ranked team in the competition at 75, followed by the Czech Republic at 36 and Turkey at 40.

Not counting penalty shootouts, Ronaldo has scored an amazing 128 goals for his country against 47 different opponents.

Ronaldo has recorded goals against 47 nations and if Portugal advances to the final stages of the competition, he may have scored goals against 50 nations by the end of the competition. He has already scored twice against the Czech Republic but has not yet scored against Turkey or Georgia.

Can Cristiano Ronaldo make a seventh Euro appearance in 2028?

During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he will be 41 years old. Canada, Mexico and the United States are set to host the competition. Could he improve upon his eight World Cup goals in total, it remains to be seen.

The following Euros, in 2028, will take place in the UK and Ireland. Is he even capable of playing a seventh Euro in his career? Who knows, but his incredible European records are easily not to be surpassed.
