The 2023-24 season saw a 40 per cent rise in goals scored from the previous season

The growth of the Saudi Pro League has been ever-impressive. The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo back in January 2023 was the first indicator of what was to come.

Since then, many big players from across Europe have packed their bags to land on Saudi soil and make the 2023-24 Saudi Pro League a global appeal. Apart from Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and many others found a home here.

What followed was even more impressive. The 2023-24 season saw a lot of goals, 909 goals to be precise. This was a 40 per cent rise from the 2022-23 season’s tally. This completed season saw a total of 156 players bought together in a single competition from across 54 countries.

With this global appeal of top-class players, the league saw improvements in sponsorship deals and even saw expansion in broadcast deals. A total of 160 countries were able to broadcast the 2023-24 Saudi Pro League season.

Al Hilal crowned Champions

Just like Bayer Leverkusen dominated the Bundesliga, Al Hilal also cherished an undefeated title-winning season. After 34 league fixtures, Al-Za’eem recorded 96 points on the league table. This included 31 wins and three draws.

The champions were both the best-scoring and the best-defensive side in the division. Under the leadership of head coach Jorge Jesus, they managed to score 101 goals and conceded just 23. Aleksandar Mitrović, with 28 goals, managed to finish behind top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo, 35 goals.

Al Nassr who finished second in the division can’t say they gave a fight, as they ended 14 points below the champs. The 2023-24 Saudi Pro League awards list is listed below.
