Morgan has made only two appearances for the Tartan Army.

Just eight days ahead of Scotland taking on Germany, the hosts, in the opening match of Euro 2024, Lewis Morgan has been summoned back into the team.

After attackers Lyndon Dykes and Ben Doak withdrew due to injury, forward Morgan, 27, of the New York Red Bulls, is the next addition to Steve Clarke’s provisional squad, joining Tommy Conway of Bristol City, a Scotland Under-21.

With Morgan in the mix, Clarke will have 28 players to choose from when deciding which 26 will travel to Germany.

In their final Euro warm-up encounter on Friday, the Tartan Army take on Finland at Hampden. In 2018, Alex McLeish, the previous boss of Clarke, captained Lewis Morgan twice. The attacker has also played for clubs such as Sunderland, St. Mirren, Inter Miami and Celtic.

In 284 club games, Morgan has scored 66 goals, including 26 goals since joining Bulls in 2022. For Friday’s friendly against Finland, no more outfield players were anticipated to be used, but Morgan from the Major League Soccer has been added by Clarke to strengthen his squad.

This implies that on Friday, the winger for the New York Red Bulls may receive his third cap for Scotland—his first came back in 2018 in a friendly with Mexico. Morgan has been playing well, with nine goals in his first 16 outings, but Clarke has given the MLS contingent very little attention thus far.

In place of Doak, Clarke had previously called up Tommy Conway of Bristol City in Scotland setup; Morgan has now been added to a 28-man roster that will be whittled down to 26 following Friday’s friendly against Finland.

Before the Scotland national football team team leaves for Germany to play in Euro, two individuals will be eliminated from the present pool. But would Morgan and Conway be among the attackers at the Euros alongside Che Adams, Lawrence Shankland and James Forrest? Only time will tell.

In addition, Clarke chose four goalkeepers in his starting lineup. It is anticipated that Zander Clark and No. 1 Angus Gunn will be flying, but it is unclear what will happen to Craig Gordon and Liam Kelly.
