Uruguay have made a brilliant start to the tournament after registering a dominant victory over Panama. They looked a threat throughout the match with Bielsa’s magic working on them.
They were good on transitions and defended as a unit. The joint record holder alongside Argentina, Uruguay have the quality to win this year’s competition. They will now face a Bolivia side who lost their opening match. A win here for Uruguay will see them progress to the next round with a game in hand.

GK: Sergio Rochet
Sergio Rochet has been trusted by Bielsa ever since he stepped in as the national team manager. He didn’t disappoint either after dropping some impressive performances for the team. Apart from conceding the only goal which he didn’t have the chance to save, he did his part effectively. Rochet made two saves while claiming the ball from set pieces to release the pressure.
RB: Nahitan Nández
Nahitan Nández plays club football for Cagliari in Serie A as a midfielder. However, Bielsa used him in the right-back role against Panama in the opening match. Nández put a real shift there as he created two chances for his teammate while also doing his defensive duty effectively. He finished the match with 2 recoveries, 1 tackle, and one interception each while also winning 6 of his duels.
CB: Ronald Araujo
The Barcelona man played 45 minutes for the team in the last match after being taken down in the first half due to an injury. However, he is fit to participate in this match despite the early scare. Araujo is a commanding defender who likes to dominate the attackers giving them no room. He was impressed in the opening hour having limited them to taking any chance.
CB: José Giménez
José Giménez has been one of the pillars of the team over the years. After being deployed in the match, he stepped up at the end of the first half to replace Ronald Araujo. Giménez brought composure in the back guiding the defense while also defending excellently. He put on a real shift in the last match as he limited the opposition from having any clear-cut chances.
LB: Matias Vina
Matias Vina had an impressive game against Panama in the opening match as he helped the team win the match. He scored a fantastic goal and also provided an important assist to cap off a fantastic performance. CM: Federico Valverde
Federico Valverde had a fantastic game in the middle of the park for the team. He provided excellent cover to the backline by making crucial tackles and interceptions. Apart from the defensive duties, he also creates two chances while taking four shots in the game. Valverde made 3 recoveries in the game, won 100% of the duels he attempted, and also made a crucial block by putting his body in the line to limit them from scoring.
CM: Manuel Ugarte
Alongside Valverde, Manuel Ugarte had a good all-round game for the team. He kept things neat and simple in the middle of the park. Ugarte finished the match with 91% passing accuracy displaying his effectiveness with the ball. He also created a chance while winning three tackles. He finished the match with 6 recoveries, 3 interceptions, and winning 6 duels. He should retain his place after putting in an impressive performance.
RW: Facundo Pellistri
Facundo Pellistri has benefitted from the appointment of Bielsa at the helm after establishing himself regularly on the side. He had an impressive game against Panama creating two chances for the team while making two successful crosses. He along with Nández combined well from the right-hand side to create chances for the team. Pellistri also made 3 recoveries in the match to help out his defense while also winning two tackles and a crucial interception.
AM: Giorgian De Arrascaeta
Arrascaeta had a brilliant game against Panama. After impressing for Flamengo in the opening matches, he has carried that form into the national side. His linkup okay with his fellow attacking players was wonderful to see. He also created one chance in the game while also attempting two shots where he was very close to scoring after a brilliant save from the keeper denied him the goal.
LW: Maximiliano Araujo
Maximiliano Araujo had an impressive game in the last match. He opened the scoring with a well-taken goal to give the team a well-deserved start. He looked dangerous whenever he was attempting to take on defenders. He attempted 4 shots on target out of which one found the back of the net. Araujo also won 4 aerial duels in the match while making three recoveries and one crucial block.
ST: Darwin Nunez
After being given the nod to start the match over Luis Suarez, Nunez took the chance with both hands as he put in an impressive shift for the team. He attempted 5 shots in the last match while 3 of them were on target and needed an excellent save from the opposition goalkeeper. He was a threat throughout the game as he made some clever runs to drag the defenders to create chances for his fellow attackers.
