Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has never gotten any tattoos on his body.
For the better part of two decades, Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of the brightest stars in football, exhibiting constant flashes of individual genius as he strived for greatness. Ronaldo started his professional career in 2002 as a youngster with Sporting Lisbon. Since then, he has played for some of the biggest teams in the world of football.
Ronaldo’s career started in Portugal, where he grew into one of the best young talents, which was recognised by Manchester United, who later signed him. He continued his growth in England and his exploits were later witnessed by Real Madrid, who subsequently acquired the forward in 2009.
Ronaldo then went to play for Juventus in 2019 and returned to United for a short stint before making the move to the Middle East where he plays for Al-Nassr. During his tenures at United and Real Madrid, Ronaldo was the recipient of five Champions Leagues in addition to five Ballon d’Or awards.
Why Ronaldo doesn’t have any tattoos?
Throughout his career, Ronaldo has frequently celebrated by taking off his shirt to display his amazing physique after scoring a goal. Viewers have likely seen that, in contrast to many prominent football players, Ronaldo is tattoo-free.
This is for a reason, and that reason is that Ronaldo frequently donates blood. ”I don’t have tattoos so that I can donate blood more often”, he said in an interview with the Italian publication Diretta back in 2012.
After getting a tattoo, donors must wait a few weeks or even months before they may donate blood. The wait time is four months in the UK and Spain, where Ronaldo played much of his club career. The wait is because getting a new tattoo carries a risk of infection.
Ronaldo spearheaded a campaign in 2015 to encourage youth blood donation. He declared:
“We can all make a difference by donating blood. Each donation can benefit up to three people in emergency situations and for long-term medical treatments. That’s why I am enthusiastic to bring awareness to the importance of blood donation and to encourage people around the world to become lifelong blood donors and help save lives.”
When Ronaldo’s Portuguese teammate Carlos Martins’ son became ill and required bone marrow and blood donations, he came forward to donate blood for the first time.
Ronaldo said to Cadena Cope, a Spanish radio station:
“It was the time when Carlos [Martins] was with us on the national team. He told us about the problem with his son and we, the players, showed great unity to help him and his son because we knew it was a very complicated situation.
This is the key reason he never believed in getting tattoos, he also is one of the fittest players in the sport and at the age of 39, he continues to be in top shape and hopes to keep playing for a few more years.
