F1 Saudi Arabian GP: Updated schedule & timings
The 2024 Formula 1 calendar marks a significant milestone, boasting the largest and potentially most demanding schedule in the sport’s history. With a total of 24 races planned throughout the year, Formula 1 will traverse familiar circuits across the globe. Despite its extensive nature, Formula 1 has adapted to meet the needs of teams and fans, resulting in a schedule adjustment for the season opener in Bahrain. Now, let’s turn our attention to the second race of the season—the Saudi Arabian GP.
We are fortunate to kick off the season with a triple-header, featuring two consecutive race weekends. Following the desert spectacle in Bahrain, the spotlight shifts to the suburbs of Jeddah for the second race on the agenda. The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is poised to host its fourth Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, albeit with some notable scheduling modifications for this year’s edition.
Race Day on Saturday
However, this year brings about some scheduling changes for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Traditionally, the circuit followed a standard timetable, with practice sessions on Friday, followed by qualifying and the race on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. However, 2024 will see a significant shift in this routine.
The alteration in schedule is due to the start of Ramadan, a sacred month observed by Muslims worldwide. To accommodate this religious observance, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will now take place on Saturday, departing from its previous Sunday slot. As a result, the race weekend will now extend from Thursday to Saturday, providing fans with an action-packed spectacle under the captivating glow of floodlights.
Thrilling Action on the Track
The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is renowned for its blend of temporary street sections and permanent track enhancements, promising an exhilarating showcase of speed and skill. With typical speeds reaching over 250 km/h, drivers will navigate the challenging layout of the circuit, delivering an unforgettable display of high-speed racing.
During the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, drivers will tackle a total of 50 laps, covering a race distance of approximately 308.45 kilometers.
