Beginner’s guide to classes
NetEase’s new hero shooter game, Marvel Rivals has finally been released officially on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. The game already has over 400,000 concurrent players playing the game on Steam on the launch day.
I have played this game for more than 8 hours and I can easily that this is far better than Overwatch 2. There are 33 playable characters who belong to three types of classes. Let’s check out more details in this article.
Duelist class
Most gamer’s favorite class and your go-to offensive attack class. They excel at one-on-one combat, dealing high damage with precision and speed. They’re the class that fans are attracted to because of their dynamic gameplay. There are eighteen Duelists in the Marvel Rivals:
- Moon Knight
- Namor
- Psylocke
- Scarlet Witch
- Spider-Man
- Squirrel Girl
- Star-Lord
- Storm
- The Punisher
- Winter Soldier
- Wolverine
- Black Panther
- Black Widow
- Hawkeye
- Hela
- Iron Fist
- Iron Man
- Magik
If you want to start from easy, then Moon Knight, Star-Lord, The Punisher and Scarlet Witch are a very good option for beginners. If you are already well versed with the duelist and the abilities then you should go with Iron Fist. He is one of the best characters in the class. You can also lean towards Wolverine, Black Panther and Winter Soldier. If sniping is your priority, then go with Black Widow and Hawkeye.

Vanguard class
Vanguard or tank class are the backbone of any team. They act as the frontline defense and tank most of the major attacks. However, in these games, they are also very good at defeating your opponents. If you can master their abilities properly, you might become one huge wrecking tank ball in the game. There are eight Vanguards in the Marvel Rivals:
- Hulk
- Peni Parker
- Magneto
- Thor
- Venom
- Captain America
- Doctor Strange
- Groot
Every character is very good and as a beginner, you can go with anyone. However, Venom might pose some difficulty as a beginner because of his mobility. However, once you master those, Venom is a menace as a tank. Starting as Captain America and Hulk might be a good choice as their abilities are very simple and straightforward in the Marvel Rivals.
Strategist class
These are the masterminds and main supports in the team. They provide healing and control of the flow of combat with tactical abilities. I would be honest that as a beginner, playing with a strategist might be really tricky and you might die a lot of times without making any impact in the game. There are seven Strategists in the Marvel Rivals:
- Loki
- Luna Snow
- Mantis
- Rocket Raccoon
- Adam Warlock
- Cloak and Dagger
- Jeff the Land Shark
If you are a beginner, then go with Jeff the Land Shark and Rocket Raccoon. Rocket is the best when it comes to support and easy to play. Jeff is literally broken in the game with it’s ability and might need a nerf in the future.
For me, Loki is the best player in the class if you can master and understand his abilities properly. You will carry your whole team alone if you can master him in Marvel Rivals.
