The First Berserker Khazan review: Is it worth buying?

Great bosses and fight!
The First Berserker Khazan by Neople and Nexon will be launching on March 27, 2025. But for those, who have purchased the deluxe edition, the early access for the game is live right now.
This game is set in the Dungeon Fighter Online universe—800 years before its beat-up roots. Knowing the whole lore isn’t required, and you can jump directly into this action RPG game. But does this game really provide the same hack-and-slash fun? Let’s find out in this article.
Flat story with repetitive grind
You take on the role of General Khazan, a betrayed hero who was framed as a traitor, tormented, and eventually rescued by the Blade Phantom, a phantom posse of warrior ghosts. It’s a bold setting for a revenge mission, but the plot stumbles.
The story isn’t that good or bad, let’s just say it’s in-between. There are many predictable things and at some point, you might get bored with it. Khazan’s appealing visual shading is visually striking, from snowy summits to gloomy mines.
It’s visually appealing, however, the stages follow a tried-and-true formula: fight waves of enemies, collect loot, and then face a boss. The range of settings—from rustic towns to subterranean depths—keeps things interesting early on, but monotony sets in by midgame.

Great combat and boss fights in The First Berserker Khazan
The combat of The First Berserker Khazan is really amazing and one of the best things about this game. You have three weapon types: dual sword-and-axe, greatsword, and spear, each comes with its own unique skill tree which you can invest and upgrade according to your taste.
I personally love Spears and that’s what I liked the most in this game as well. Stamina plays a very important role while you are fighting the enemies. It reminded me of Sekiro, so make sure to keep leveling it up.
Blocking gives layers—standard, perfect, parry, reflection—but the timing’s tricky and variable. A successful parry in one fight may fail in the next.
However, the boss’s designs and fights are incredible. These showdowns were incredible, with huge yetis, flamethrower-wielding brutes, and a serpentine dragon. I had the most fun while tackling a main boss.
If you spend time and get more comfortable with blocking and parrying, fighting against a good boss in high difficulty can be amazing. It’s just like Sekiro when you can dance longer and grind your enemy to death with perfection.
There are many loot and balancing issues in The First Berserker Khazan which were also present in the open demo. But I think with some updates, it can be fixed easily.
Overall conclusion
Overall, The First Berserker Khazan is a great game with a lame and boring story. If you are someone new who is getting into more souls like and hack and slash RPG games, this might be perfect for you.
The visuals, combat and boss fight are what make this game shine brighter. The soundtrack is also amazing and it makes the fight even more impressive and enjoyable. Is it worth buying? Yes, if you have nothing else to play and want to give it a try for an action RPG. If you are someone who doesn’t care about the story and just wants to grind some monsters and bosses, this might be perfect for you.
But I think it might be better, to hold off for a while and wait for some discount or sale to buy The First Berserker Khazan.
