During a recent financial results Q&A session, the developers at CD Projekt RED revealed that the upcoming trilogy might not get the traditional story expansion.

There is no doubt that CD Projekt RED has very ambitious plans for the next Saga with Ciri as the main lead.
The main reason behind not being able to provide the story expansion is the studio’s aggressive release schedule for the next saga.
The company has stated that they aim to launch all three games of the trilogy within six years. This strategy might allow the fans to experience the full story much sooner than expected.
However, this also means that the development resources will be focused on delivering the next game, rather than any post-launch content or DLC.
According to CD Projekt RED, fitting the major DLCs for The Witcher 4, 5 & 6 into such a tight production timeline would be nearly impossible.
