It’s a Kojima game!
It won’t be a Hideo Kojima game without quirky mechanics and some weird moments. Death Stranding 2 has those moments and mechanics as well.
Sam Porter Bridges’ journey is filled with dangers, rough terrains and fights against BTs. In the post-apocalyptic world, players also have to make sure to tend his basic needs.
Urinating is one of those needs and it also provides rewards to players. Let’s find out more in this article.
Reasons why Sam needs to pee
Kojima has not only provided some extraordinary photo-realistic graphics, but has also made sure to make Sam Porter more human and realistic.
Sam’s hydration habits, whether consuming energy drinks in his private room or drinking from his canteen on the fly, gradually fill his bladder.
Ignore the pee meter for too long, and Sam begins to display signs of discomfort, indicating that it is time to act.

Can you pee outside in Death Stranding 2?
Absolutely Yes! You can make Sam pee outside by using the item wheel by holding the right D-pad.
Scroll down to the pee option and then press X on your PS5 controller. Then, press L2 to prepare and then press R2 to let it flow.
Peeing outside will spawn a tiny mushroom. If additional players hit the same location, it forms a cluster, resulting in a fantastic community-driven Easter egg. (Peak Kojima Gameplay)
Get rewards by using indoor facilities
Now, peeing at a safehouse, bunkers, or rest facility by using the indoor bathroom can fetch you some rewards.
After Sam wakes up, turn the camera towards the exit door, where you will spot the shower and toilet.
When you interact with the toilet, the game will trigger a small cutscene. Unlike the first game, when peeing indoors resulted in explosions, Death Stranding 2 rewards you with Chiral Crystals.
Chiral Crystals are very valuable in the game and can help you boost your crafting and carrying capacity.

Conclusion
It’s best to use the Indoor facility for peeing to get Chiral Cystals. But sometimes, you might wanna let loose in the wild, just to enjoy the peak Kojima gameplay.
Make sure to tend to Sam Porter’s basic needs so that he can stay focused on his journey.
