Rocksteady’s new project sparks hope
There is no doubt that Warner Bros Games is still suffering from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, with its Q1 2025 financial report revealing a staggering 48% revenue decline.
This was officially announced on May 12, 2025, in their latest financial report. A year after the title’s dismal February 2024 launch, the publisher blames the failure of the live-service game on a lack of major releases.
Suicide Squad game lasting impact
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, developed by Rocksteady, was officially declared a commercial flop and cost millions for Warner Bros.
The game’s live-service format alienated fans, and support ended in January 2025, well short of the anticipated four seasons.
The Q1 report underlines its continuous revenue drag, which is aggravated by no big releases since MultiVersus’ official launch in May 2024. The setback also canceled a Wonder Woman game, indicating a strategic shift.
Revenue Bright Spots
According to the report, only Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 continue to drive sales for them. That’s why they have also decided to focus on these two projects for now.
Mortal Kombat 1’s consistent DLCs keep the players engaged, while Hogwarts Legacy, with 30 million copies sold by April 2025, remains a juggernaut. Sequel is also currently in development.
A Batman comeback?
Rocksteady has also decided to shift the gears and go back to its roots, which is widely speculated to be a Batman: Arkham title.
Job advertisements on Warner Bros’ website reference a “highly anticipated AAA title,” raising anticipation for a return to the famed Arkham formula.
This move could help the gaming division, which experienced a 63% revenue loss in Q3 2024, according to Variety.
Warner Bros Games’ Q1 2025 results show Suicide Squad game long lasting effect and damage. However, there are also some good points with Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1.
There is also MultiVersus Season 5 underway and a new Batman Game, which may epically revive their comeback.
