India had finished seventh in the previous edition of the Men’s FIH Pro League.

The Indian men’s hockey team begin their FIH Pro League 2024-25 campaign against Spain on 15 February, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar. They will be playing two matches each against Spain, Germany, Ireland and England in their home leg, at the iconic Kalinga Hockey Stadium.

The team, currently ranked fifth in the world, will tour Europe in June. While they take on Netherlands and Argentina in Amstelveen, the Antwerp leg will see them go up against Australia and Belgium.

India’s best-ever performance in the six-season old league was in the 2021-22 edition, where they ended third on the points table. With a spot in the FIH World Cup 2026 on the line, coach Craig Fulton’s side would want to go full throttle and look to lift their first title.

Household names like Harmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Abhishek, and Amit Rohidas will as always have eyes following them. However, based on the performance in the recently concluded Hockey India League, several new players have been added to the team. Players like Bobby Singh Dhami, Angad Bir Singh, and Yashdeep Siwach will be looking to prove that they are capable of playing at the highest level.

What is the format of the tournament?

Nine teams will face each other in a round-robin tournament to be held between November and June. The competition follows the Home and Away principle but is divided into data blocks. For ease of logistics, multiple teams assemble at one location, with each side playing two matches against the other. The team finishing at the top of the table after the conclusion of all games will be awarded the trophy.

The bottom-placed team will face relegation and be replaced by the Men’s FIH Nations Cup winner, who will compete in the next edition.

The champion will also earn direct qualification for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026. The Netherlands and Belgium have already qualified for the quadrennial tournament as hosts of the competition. Australia ensured a spot for themselves by emerging victorious in the previous edition of the Pro League.
