Indian Sports Calendar in 2023: Events to watch in final week of November

Indian junior paddlers will battle against the world’s best at ITTF World Youth Championships.

A lot of sporting events are lined up in the upcoming week of the Indian sports calendar. The badminton action continues to move ahead in the Asian leg with top Indian shuttlers including HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen taking part in the Syed Modi International in India. ISL 10 after a two-week break is back and Kerala Blasters currently lead the points chart.

Here we take a look at the events to follow in the upcoming week (November 27-December 03) in the Indian sports calendar:

Badminton

Syed Modi International is set to be the final tournament in the BWF World Tour calendar this year. Asian Games bronze medallist HS Prannoy is the top seed in men’s singles. Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, Priyanshu Rajawat are the other top Indian shuttlers taking part in the home competition.

  • November 28-03 December: Syed Modi International

Cricket

The Indian men’s cricket team have taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. While Rinku Singh helped the hosts hit the winning runs in the last ball of the match in the series opener, The Men in Blue beat Australia by 44 runs in the second match to consolidate their lead in the series.

With the T20 world cup just a year away, several youngsters will be looking to prove their skill sets in the competition.

  • November 23-03 December: Australia’s Tour of India (ongoing)

Football

All the ISL clubs are back in action after a two-week FIFA international break. East Bengal and Chennaiyin started the proceedings with a (1-1) draw at Marina Arena in Chennai. Kerala Blasters currently occupy the top spot with 16 points followed by FC Goa with 13.

Hockey

After winning the Asia Junior championships, the junior women’s team is geared up to clash against the world’s best in Chile in two-week long tournament. India finished the previous edition in the fourth spot after losing to England in the bronze medal playoff match.

Table Tennis

India’s top junior paddlers in the U-15 and U-19 categories are set to take part in the prestigious tournament. Suhana Saini and Yashaswini Ghorpade are the top seeds in women’s doubles while Payas Jain and Ankur Bhattacharjee will be leading the men’s contingent in the U-19 section.

Tennis

After the successful completion of ATP Finals, the action now shifts to NextGen Finals with budding youngsters scheduled to take part. Top eights players from the current season who are aged 21 and under are eligible to take part. Abdullah Shelbayh received a wildcard who is currently ranked 311 in ATP singles rankings.
