PKL 11: We will stop Nitin Kumar from taking points says U Mumba captain Sunil Kumar

U Mumba defeated Gujarat Giants to register their first win in PKL 11.
U Mumba secured their first victory of the Pro Kabaddi League season 11 (PKL 11), defeating Gujarat Giants 33-27, thanks to a standout performance from Amirmohammad Zafardanesh. The win marked U Mumba’s first points of the PKL 11 season, while Guman Singh, who managed just 3 points for Gujarat Giants, ironically faced his former team, having played for U Mumba last year.
Speaking to the media, Gujarat’s captain Neeraj and coach Ram Mehar Singh along with U Mumba’s captain Sunil Kumar and coach Gholamreza shared their thoughts on the PKL 11 game.

On Amirmohammad Zafardanesh’s performance
U Mumba started strong, with Manjeet and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh getting the first points on the board. However, Gujarat Giants quickly responded, with Parteek Dahiya, Guman Singh, and Jitender Yadav helping erase U Mumba’s early lead.
“Amirmohammad Zafardanesh is one of the best talents in PKL. Sometimes he does make some mistakes but we need to improve him. He is a little slow this time but he will get better,” said U Mumba coach Gholamreza.
The match remained tightly contested, with neither side willing to give an inch. Manjeet spearheaded U Mumba’s attack, helping them hold a slim 3-point advantage midway through the first half. A Super Tackle from Himanshu brought Gujarat Giants level again, and by halftime, U Mumba held a narrow 14-13 lead.
On taking on Bengal Warriorz next in PKL 11
Following this U Mumba will take on Bengal Warriorz in PKL 11, who will be coming off a game against UP Yoddhas. Bengal have revamped their squad bringing in Iranian star Fazel Atrachali.
Speaking on the same, Sunil Kumar said, “Bengal Warriorz is a good team. Maninder is a great player. Nitin is the player we want to stop. They are a good team with good defence to with Fazel in it. So I am sure they will come up with a plan but we will also play like we did today”.
On facing UP Yoddhas next in PKL 11
As the game entered its final moments, Zafardanesh crossed the 10-point mark, solidifying U Mumba’s lead. Despite Gujarat Giants‘ desperate efforts, U Mumba held on for a well-deserved victory. Now Gujarat Giants will go on to face UP Yoddhas in PKL 11 who are looking like a force to be reckoned with.
“All the teams are good and I don’t think there is a huge difference in the teams. It all depends on who makes fewer mistakes in the game. It depends on how your team is playing a unit,” coach Ram Mehar Singh stated.
