PKL 12: Patna Pirates' defence coach opens up on their qualification scenario & chances

Patna Pirates sit at 10th spot in the PKL 12 table.
Patna Pirates, who have had a disappointing season in Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 (PKL 12), have finally picked up momentum over the last few games as they defeated table-toppers Puneri Paltan on Sunday at the Thyagraj Stadium in Delhi.
Puneri Paltan once again fielded their backup seven, but the match remained closely contested until halftime, with Pune leading by just two points. They managed to avoid multiple all-outs through timely super tackles on the Pirates’ raiders. However, the second half was completely dominated by the Pirates, led by Ayan Lohchab, who scored 17 raid points and secured a crucial victory for his team.
With this win, Patna Pirates have significantly boosted their chances of qualifying for the top 8 of PKL 12. After the match, representatives from both teams addressed the media.
Patna Pirates
Qualification chances increased
Patna Pirates’ Defence Coach, Randeep Dalal, explained their current situation and said,
“We lost many close games in the beginning, but for the past three matches, we’ve been winning. The team has regained its rhythm. There are two matches left, and at this stage, there’s no scenario of loss or win, we simply have to win both if we want to qualify. The points table is very crucial now, and our hopes are still alive. We will play to win.”
On Ayan Lohchab’s performance
Patna Pirates captain Ankit Jaglan praised his teammate Ayan Lohchab and said, “In today’s time, and even in the coming years, there’s no left raider better than Ayan in India. He performed exceptionally well last season, and this season too, he is proving himself.”

On rest for the main players
Puneri Paltan Head Coach, Ajay Thakur, explained his decision to rest the main players, saying
“We gave rest to everyone. Minor injuries happen to all players, and this break allowed them time to relax and recover. They will rest for another 2–3 days, and after that, we will prepare for the playoffs. We also wanted to give everyone a chance to play.
Their families watch kabaddi and want to see their sons in action, whether they play well or not, at least they get to showcase their capabilities. I believe we have given everyone in the squad an opportunity this season, and everyone performed well.”
Upcoming Emerging Stars from the squad
Puneri Paltan Head Coach Ajay Thakur also spoke about the emerging players from his squad. He said:
“From my team, Vaibhav will do very well in the future as a right cover. Then there is the Amaan and Dadaso corner duo, they have played some games last year and will be the strength of the team in the upcoming seasons. And finally, Abhishek Gunge, note his name. He will be the second Siddharth Desai in the near future. I’m saying this today, it may take him 2–3 years, but he will reach the level of Siddharth Desai.”
