National Games 2023: Services 4x400m men's relay team win gold

Tamil Nadu missed out from the top spot by just 0.01 seconds.
The 37th edition of the National Games 2023 in Goa witnessed an exhilarating day featuring the pinnacle of track and field events. The day was marked by intense competitions in various disciplines, including pole vault for women, triple jump for women, shot put for men, hammer throw for women as well as the challenging 5000m race for women and the grueling 10,000m race for men. The electrifying atmosphere was further charged by the 4x400m relay races, where both men and women teams pushed their limits in a bid for victory.
The most anticipated event of the day undoubtedly was the 4x400m relay races for both men and women which left spectators on the edge of their seats. In the men’s section, Services emerged victorious and clinched the gold with a performance of 3 minutes 7.79 seconds. Tamil Nadu, with a mere milliseconds difference had to settle for the silver medal finishing in 3 minutes 7.80 seconds.
Kerala secured the third position with a commendable performance of 3 minutes 8.50 seconds. The women’s relay was equally electrifying with Andhra Pradesh claiming the top spot in 3 minutes, 37.94 seconds. Tamil Nadu closely followed in the second position finishing in 3 minutes 38.53 seconds while Kerala secured the third spot with a time of 3 minutes 38.79 seconds.
In the fiercely contested women’s triple jump finals, the spotlight shone brightly on the remarkable performance of Kerala’s talented athletes, Sheena and Nayana. The competition was nothing short of intense for these two representatives from Kerala. Sheena soared to victory and claimed the gold medal with an impressive jump of 13.49 meters.

Another Keralite, hot on her heels was Nayana whose outstanding effort earned her the silver medal with a jump of 13.18 meters. The battle for the podium was incredibly close with Anusha from Andhra Pradesh securing the third spot with a jump of 13.16 meters.
In the women’s pole vault final, Baranica Elangovan soared to victory and claimed gold. The silver medal was secured by Pavitra Vengatesh who was also representing Tamil Nadu. Mariya from Kerala earned the bronze medal.
Indeed, the shot put event brought a significant difference compared to the dominance of southern derby seen in the previous events. In the men’s shot put, it was Samardeep from Madhya Pradesh who emerged as the champion by registering a distance of 18.99 meters. Danvir from Punjab secured the silver medal with a throw of 18.79 meters. Sahib, also from Punjab earned the bronze medal with a throw covering a distance of 17.86 meters.
As we eagerly approach the final days of the track and field events in the National Games, the anticipation and excitement among sports enthusiasts continue to rise. As we look forward to the remaining finals, there is are more nail-biting finishes with outstanding athletes competing.
