The Korean team need to win their next game against Tajikistan to qualify for the final.

India suffered a shock defeat to North Korea in the Hero Intercontinental Cup. The visitors defeated the hosts 2-5, with three of the goals coming in the first half.

The manager of the DPR Korea, Yun Jong-su hailed his side’s ability to rise to the occasion by scoring the goals required to go one step closer to qualifying for the final of the competition.

“Today was a very crucial match for our team because we need to score as many goals as possible to get a better chance to advance to the final. So, I think the players tried to score many goals. They scored five goals in the game and I think the players, they did their best,” said Yun.

When asked if he received any resistance from India who were well beaten, over the course of the game, the North Korean responded, “I’ve seen the Indian team playing in their first match. So, I do not think that the Indian team are not so high (level)."

However, Yun was wary of the fact that his side had taken their foot off the gas in the second half, with two defensive errors leading to two goals for the home side. These are issues that the 57-year-old will have to set right before his team’s final game against Tajikistan.

“In the first half, we pressed the Indian team and we scored three goals. The players played better than in the second half. There were some mistakes in the defensive line. The defenders made two mistakes, so they let the other team score two goals."

The coach continued, "In the second half, the players did not do very well like in the first half. We have only one match to go, day after tomorrow against Tajikistan. So, we have to learn a lesson from this match and be better prepared for the last match.“
