Three ISL clubs have no local players from their home state.

The 2024-2025 edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) consists of teams that have shown varying levels of representation. Players within the league come from their home states and other states with one goal: to win the ISL title.

The teams are always on the lookout for unearthing the best young local talent available from their home state.

Some ISL clubs have prioritized recruiting homegrown players, while others have relied more on talent from outside their states. Here’s a list of homegrown players that each team possesses in this 2024-2025 season in ascending order:

  • Odisha FC- 0
  • Hyderabad FC- 0
  • Punjab FC- 0

NorthEast United FC leads the ISL in local talent representation

Among all the teams this season, NorthEast United FC have a strong collection of talent with nine players from North Eastern part of India. The strong number reflects the club’s deep-rooted connection with football in northeastern India.

Kerala Blasters FC are the next club that follows closely with eight players from ‘God’s Own Country’. The passion for the sport is demonstrated by the state’s enthusiasm and drive to make themselves a footballing powerhouse. FC Goa and East Bengal FC also have a solid number of local players, with teams like Mohammedan SC, Bengaluru FC, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Mumbai City FC, and Chennaiyin FC showing moderate regional representation.

However, teams like Odisha FC, Hyderabad FC, and Punjab FC have no players from their home states. It will be a significant yet concerning indicator of a lack of local talent recruitment or an enhanced focus on players from other regions.
