Indian Player Ratings: Chhetri, Udanta power Bengaluru to close win against ATK
Written by: Srinivasan
The Steelmen returned to the summit of the ISL table with a fine 1-0 win over Teddy Sheringham's ATK
Like many an occasion prior to this, a Sunil Chhetri goal was the difference between Bengaluru FC and their opponents. The 33-year old's strike just before half time condemned ATK to yet another defeat and restored the Blues to the top of the ISL table.
After a relatively quiet first half hour, the India custodian was called into action as a slick ATK move saw him deny a sure goal from point blank range. Was on hand to stop Robbie Keane from scoring in the second half. A solid performance from the giant goalkeeper.
Rahul Bheke- 7.0
The centre half was a bundle of nerves in the game away to Kerala Blasters, but looked a lot more composed as he dealt with the threat of Keane and Robin Singh admirably.
Harmanjot Khabra- 7.0
The full back was his energetic self as he and Udanta combined to give former Blue Keegan Pereira a torrid time on the left. With Jose Branco drifting inwards to add more numbers to the midfield, it left the flank free for the versatile midfielder to wreck havoc.
Sunil Chhetri- 8.0
Sunil Chhetri scored a stunner
Sporting a new haircut, the talisman was in his element as he gave a tricky Prabir Das plenty to think about with his silky touches, vision and pace. Switched to the right flank later in the first half and opened the scoring just before the half way mark with a sublime strike outside the box that gave Debjit in the ATK goal no chance.
Subhashish Bose- 7.0
Has made the left back slot his own and provides an element of solidity to the flank. Was alert to the runs of the energetic Prabir Das and made occasional forays into the ATK half.
Udanta Singh- 8.0
Beat Keegan for pace on numerous occasions and combined with Khabra admirably to ensure that the ATK left wing was always an area of concern. Brought off for Alwyn George late in the second half.
Alwyn George- 6.0
Replaced the lively Udanta Singh late in the second half as Roca wanted to keep a check on the ATK midfield. Kept the ball well and ensured that his side did not cede possession to their opponents.
Bengaluru FC vs ATK match highlights
Debjit Majumdar - 6.5
Saw his goal under siege as the defence struggled to cope with the movement of Miku, Garcia and Chhetri. Could not do much about the goal as Chhetri's shot was beyond his reach. Denied Paartalu with a point blank save in the second half and was let down by his defence for a large part of the game.
Prabir Das- 7.5
The full-back was a live wire on the pitch as he stuck to Chhetri and gave Subhashish some nervy moments with his constant runs forward. Was seen occasionally in midfield to add more numbers to the middle of the pitch
Rupert Nongrum -6.0
The winger needed to combine with Das to overload the Bengaluru left wing, but could not make a mark on the game.
Shankar Sampingiraj -5.5
Another former Blue in the ATK ranks, the Karnataka midfielder struggled against the guile and physicality of the Bengaluru midfield. Found it difficult screen his back four against a front 4 that was running riot. Was hauled off at half time for Bipin Singh as Sheringham looked to add more teeth to his attack.
Keegan Pereira- 6.0
Had a torrid first half as Udanta and Khabra tore him to shreds. Did not receive enough help from Jose Branco who was asked to play a more attacking role and did not track back enough. Was more comfortable when Bipin Singh was brought on for Jose Branco in the second half.
Robin Singh- 6.0
A quiet first half from the former Blues striker. Could not use his height and physique to trouble the Bengaluru backline and bring open up spaces for Keane. Was replaced by the young Hitesh Sharma late into the second half.
Hitesh Sharma -5.5
The former Mumbai FC youngster was brought on for Robin Singh as Sheringham hoped to inject some pace into a sluggish attack. Could not influence proceedings as expected.
Bipin Singh- 6.0
Gave more protection to Keegan Pereira by tracking back regularly but could not add more to the attacking third as ATK chased the game.
